PLAY: New Orleans Voodoo EVALUATION: Play Not Evaluated.
REASON FOR PLAY: Two things we look for in early AFL games.
1.) We look close at all underdogs. Simply put, with no games yet played, oddsmakers are at a real disadvantage in quantifying these games. This is true with all sports, and exagerated with a high scoring game like Arena Football.
2.) Under-valued road teams. Arena Football home teams are the most over-rated in all of sports. You see, the 'true' home field advantage runs as high as -4 points in college football and Canadian football, is just over -3 points in NFLE and just shy of -3 points in NFL. However, the true home edge in Arena Football is just shy of -2 points. However, this reality takes a few weeks for bettors to get accustomed to, especially on the heels of the huge home field advantages enjoyed by NFL playoff teams. This delivers terrific value with all week 1 Arena road teams.
Combining the two, we get 4 decent wagering opportunities in week 1 of the 2005 Arena Football Season, including this game. Remember, the VooDoo swept this series last season and the home team cashed in both ATS. Additionally, Georgia was a losing home team, winning just 3 times in 8 opportunities. Make the final here, New Orleans 47, Georgia 45. Take New Orleans
Bryan Leonard's Arena Football Game Of The Week: After passing on the opening night card of Arena Ball, Bryan really likes tonight's indoor matchup. Great amounts of money can be made by handicapping smaller sports such as Arena Football, let Bryan show you how.

GAME: New Orleans Voodoo at Georgia Force Jan 29 2005 7:00PM
PLAY: New Orleans Voodoo EVALUATION: Play Not Evaluated.
REASON FOR PLAY: As has been evident in the NFL playoffs, coaching is such an enormous factor when it comes to winning in football. Coaching gives the visitors a decided edge in this game, too. New Orleans has Mike Neu, who surprised everyone by taking New Orleans to the playoffs after an 11-5 campaign in their first season. That set an Arena record for most wins by an expansion team. He pocketed a much deserved Coach of the Year trophy, as well. New Orleans won both meetings with Georgia last season, winning 55-52 at Georgia and 44-40 at home. And New Orleans is even better this season, as QB John Fitzgerald (61 TDs, 15 INTs) has ace receiver Aaron Bailey (34 TD catches, 1,364 yards) back, alongside a newcomer in free agent signee Thabiti Davis. The 6-foot-3 Davis is a big, physical receiver who had 26 TDs with Detroit last season. Georgia is off a 7-9 season and has new looks on offense, including QB and offensive coordinator changes. The offense struggled at times last season and changes were needed. It’s unclear yet whether those changes will be for the better, but it most likely won’t be better in the opener, which is this game.
