  • Boone Moone Football Forecast For Sunday 1/15/06

    PITTSBURGH VS. INDIANAPOLIS

While I'm still one of the few that are not convinced that the Indianapolis Colts are shoo-in for this year's Lombardi Trophy, you've gotta hand it to this team for how they've handled themselves and the improvement they've made during the season.......Sure, they've played a mediocre schedule and all, but they actually seemed bored at various times and quite franky sleepwalked through the last month of the season......These guys are due to explode at any moment, and the high number posted by the Vegas "corporate gurus" indicate that the moment is now.......The Monday Night game that took place between the two of these about six weeks ago was a pretty accurate scenario of things to come.......The Steelers played a pretty hard game throughout, but were simply outclassed by a far superior team.

Sure, the Cowher-coached squad showed a lot of heart last week when coming from behind on the road against the high-poised Bengals.....but playing against a John Kitna-led offense is just a little bit different than buckin' heads with a guy named Peyton Manning.....just a little.

Look for the Colts to attack early and often with their underrated defense, and coast late.....Colts 31...Steelers 10.

    CAROLINA VS. CHICAGO

The toughest game on the weekend is saved for last......There is really not a whole lot separating these two clubs.....and the way the Panthers have played lately, you really can't discount them just because they play this one in Chicago......especially since forecasters aren't calling for the typical frostbite-ridden swirling winds......The Bears defense needs no introduction, having given up only 61 points at home the entire year.....You might go as far as saying that the first team to score 10 points might advance on to the NFC championship.......This one is a hard one to call, but if I had to, I'd say it might end up 13-3 Chicago, depending on how well Rex Grossman handles this step-up in class.....Luck will decide this contest, since these two teams are more evenly-matched than any of the other games on the menu......Best of luck to all of my fellow players......Boone.

O.K, O.K.......So I sucked today and probably costed a few guys some money......but I probably dropped more than everybody combined on the Colts........Yes, after posting my "Colts Hype" thread some 4 weeks ago saying how they would choke as soon as they reached the playoffs, and would fall victim to "Dungyball" I still was stupid enough to fall for the line and play them anyway........What fucked up my thesis was the line posted by the Vegas houseboys......You see, I've pretty much made a living out of playing lines and line moves over the years by knowing that a good percentage of the lines aren't set by how the teams are performing, but by how these high school corporate geeks think the general betting public are going to respond to the opening line........They throw you a curve here and there, but the avid (not the average) gambler knows how to handle these fucks........Hey I can take a punch, and won't usually complain (just like I won't gloat when I pick a game that no one can figure).....But even the novice on the street could see that the refereeing this week left a bit to be desired.....Why is it that the most controversial calls always seem to come during the most "wagered-on games"?........Did anyone see the Rose Bowl?.........Fuck it ....I don't care.....It all comes back in the end.....And I ain't gonna end up dead by suggesting that the NFL front office is involved a little more than they should be......But everyone saw the "invented" Tuck Rule that took place simply to keep the Raiders and Al Davis out of the playoffs 3 years ago.......and I"m sure we all read this weeks newspapers saying that the refs fucked up the call on Palamolu's interception this week......Yeah, a lot of good it does us AFTER the fact........What about all of the money wagered?!!!!!........To hell with it .....I've ranted long enough......It's just that I had thoughts of requesting a fee for this info next year, and these crooks are making me look bad.......Smile guys........be back with next weeks forecast on Friday or Saturday......Give me a chance to check with the front office.
