Friday night CFB - Cincinnati Bearcats +8 vs Pittsburgh Panthers

Both opened up with impressive home wins last week, Pittsburgh pounded Virginia 38-13 and Cincinnati shut out Division I-AA foe Eastern Kentucky 31-0. Although the win was against a Division I-AA opponent, evidently Eastern Kentucky is a very good Division I-AA team whose QB was the Ohio Valley Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2005, for whatever that's worth. Although Pittsburgh leads Cincy by quite a margin in the Sagarin ratings (if that ever means anything at all), there are a few items that make me want to take Cincinnati in this contest.
    1) Pittsburgh was 0-5 on the road last year SU. Cincinnati, despite only going 4-7 overall, was 3-2 SU at home with the 2 losses coming against Louisville and W. Virginia. Pittsburgh is also only 5-12 ATS (L17) after a home game and 8-18 ATS (L26) after an over (like last week!)
    2) Even though Pittsburgh won the matchup against Cincinnati LY (38-20 @ Pitt), here's an excerpt from the Bearcat Insider regarding that game:
"Pitt’s total offense of 321 yards was only 9 yards more than Cincinnati’s. The Bearcats essentially lost the game with poor special teams play. Pitt’s average starting position was the 42 yard line while Cincinnati’s was the 26. The Panthers also blocked a Bearcat punt at the 6 yard line that lead to a touchdown and returned a punt 79 yards for another score."
    3) Cincinnati, although pretty bad on defense LY, returns an impressive 11 starters on defense who played a pretty nice game last week.

Anyway, besides all that, Pittsburgh has to prove it can win on the road and Cincinnati looks to be improved so I'll take the generous 8 pts in this one.

    I,m sorry.....Cincinnati returns 10 starters on defense, not 11.
(Hopefully the 1 that's gone was the one screwing things up! )

Oh well....I'm glad only a few people read this
Actually the Cincy defense played pretty well with just a couple big plays that hurt them. The offense continually put them on the ropes however with their ineptness.
