How to properly handicap?

What's up guys? Well I'm here asking for a little help. I'm pretty new to everything only been doing it for a year or so. I'm a college student and I'm hoping to make some extra money instead of losing it. What is the proper method to handicapping a football game? I look at trends and different things, but what is the method you use.
