  • The 'double standard' rears it's head again

Michael Irvin, whose name is synonomous with cocaine, crackhouses and whoring around...who's been arrested how many times?... gets elected into the footbal hall of fame on his 3rd try. Pete Rose, the all-time hit leader may never make it.....McGwire just got passed up and may never make it.....Palmeiro?...Sosa? ....Bonds, the future homerun king, even??? Steroids have been around football and more widely used and for lot longer...probably half the players in the HOF used them. Nothing has even been proven against some of the baseball players. Un-be-freakin-lievable

The "all-time" injustice is that of the Pete Rose folly.........I'll admit that this guy may have burned alot of bridges during his "in denial" phase of his wrongdoings, but to ban him for life because of gambling ?............Who doesn't gamble?...........I'll admit that the guy leaves a little to be desired in the personality department (I met him, and he's a cocky ruthless bastard if he doesn't know you)...........But like everyone else has been saying the past 20 years, he should be judged by his performance on the playing field, not off of it................What a crock of shit.

I agree Rose should be in. He should be judged by what he did during his time as a PLAYER. Period.

There was also alot of talk this past week about whether a punter should get in, because Ray Guy was a candidate.........of course a punter should get in. It's part of the game isn't it? Field position, pinning the other team inside their own 10, etc.etc.

Boone - No comments about Guy from Raider Nation????

I also agree Ray Guy should be in the Hall of Fame.

Another great player who has been snubbed is Jerry Krammer who had an 11-year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. As a 6'3", 250 lb. right guard, #64 was an integral part of the famous "Packer Sweep", which featured both guards pulling out from their normal positions and lead-blocking for the running back going around the end. Kramer was an All-Pro five times, and a member of the NFL's 50th anniversary team in 1969. He has been on the list of finalists ten times since becoming eligible, but has not been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Have to disagree with you guys on Rose, he should NEVER see the day he gets in the H O F period. He knew what he was doing was the biggest NO NO in baseball. Put him in after he kicks it.His denial of ever gambling on baseball up to the point of his book coming out was a joke. His gambling took place while he was still on the field. Dont ever see him getting in

mike irvin - scumbag crack-head loser. only place that terd should be in the HOF is in the mens room toilet swirling around the bowl. the entire NFL should be ashamed that this thug made the HOF. simply disgusting. where is art monk? andre reed? shit, alvin harper was as good as irvin WITHOUT the crack & whores

ray guy- hard to say if a punter should be in there. BUT if one deserves to be it is ray guy. he was the greatest.

btw, did i mention what a scumbag irvin is? i cant wait to see which clown suit he is wearing today.

You make some good points KJALB, but the argument could go on forever..........Rose is/was in denial about gambling on his own sport, but what we fail to see, is that alot of Hall of Famers were far from perfect........Babe Ruth himself never met a beer he didn't like, cokeheads, steroid users, and the list goes on and on..........So who's to judge?

I've been out of the loop lately, so to be honest, I didn't even know Ray Guy was nominated.........But hell yes, he should be inducted...........I'll never forget on the eve of Super Bowl 18, I was a nervous wreck worrying about my Los Angeles Raiders (at the time), being able to contend with the powerful Washington Redskin offense with Joe Theisman, John Riggins, Art Monk and Charley Brown............I was having a few pre-game beers with some friends and family when my uncle shouts out "Don't even worry about it Boone, the Raiders have that guy "Guy".......He'll put 'em away.............He's a weapon all by himself"...........truer words were never spoken.........This guy possessed the most powerful leg in the history of the game, and was a master at pinning the opposing team deep in their own territory.............He rewrote record books for punters at the time, and put the word "special" in Special Teams.............Damn right he belongs in the Hall of Fame........RAIDER NATION !!!!!

The bottom line on Rose is....he is the all-time hits leader!! Leaving him out is ludicrous. It makes a mockery of any other HOF record-holder when you omit the leader, in that particular category especially. If he had bet against his own team, or thrown games it's one thing but everyone bets on something for crying out loud.
Yes, a punter should definitely not be left out. Kind of like a reliever?
