  • MLB PLAYS 4/27-4/30

    2-1 on Sunday +105
    YTD: Overall 23-14 +10.31 units (Sides 16-9 +7.86 units, RL's 1-1 +0.45 units, O/U's 6-4 +2 units) Leans 2-0 +2.1 units (leans not counted in overall stats)

    Monday
Lot's of stuff, probably too much.
Cubs +137 (Lilly 2-1, 2.41) at Arizona (Haren 1-3, 1.38) - I don't particularly like picking against Haren, but a look at his record and ERA are enough to tell you about Arizona's offensive struggles. The D'backs have scored a total of 3 runs in Haren's 4 starts. In 2 of his starts they didn't score a single run. He has lost 3-0, 3-1 and 2-0. The poor guy is just 1-3 despite giving up just 4 runs total in 26 innings, with 26 SO's, just 5 BB's and only 1 HR. Arizona's .225 team batting average is the worst in MLB, and their 63 runs scored are the 2nd lowest, behind only San Francisco, a team that has beaten the D'backs 4 out of 6 so far.
LA Dodgers RL -1.5 +115 (Wolf 1-1, 4.26) at San Francisco (Zito 0-2, 5.63) I'll try another RL where I'm 1-1 for the year so far. The Dodgers swept 3 from the Giants earlier in LA, out-scoring them 23-7 in the process. Zito took one of the losses, giving up 6 runs on 4 H's, 4 BB's and a HR in 5 innings of work, in an eventual 7-2 loss. LA's 110 runs scored are tied for 3rd in all of MLB. The Giant's 60 runs scored are dead last out of 30 teams.
OV 11 EVEN Texas (Harrison 0-2, 9.20) at Baltimore (Guthrie 2-1, 5.16) Harrison has not been good, lasting just 14.2 innings total, over 3 starts so far, and giving up 15 runs on 26 H's and 11 BB's, with 4 HR's. That's an average of 2.6 base runners per inning. That does not go well with HR's. In the meantime, Texas' 110 runs scored is tied for 3rd in all of MLB, and Baltimore's 128 runs given up is dead last out of 30 teams, 6 more than the next worst team.
Boston +111 (Wakefield 2-1, 2.45) at Cleveland (Lee 1-3, 5.25) How do you not take a shot with the Red Sox here? They are the hottest team in MLB with a 10 game winning streak. OK, so they are just 2-4 on the road, but Wakefield has been pitching well, giving up just 6 runs over 3 starts totaling 22 innings, and hasn't given up a dinger yet. And Boston was 10-3 vs the Indians last year, including 5-1 in Cleveland.
Tampa Bay +105 (Niemann 1-2, 5.40) at Minnesota (Baker 0-2, 12.46) - Niemann has had a couple decent starts after his shaky opener. Baker has been awful. He's lasted a total of just 8.2 innings in his 2 starts giving up 12 runs on 15 hits, and....are you ready for this?.....7 HR's! .....in 8.2 innings!

    Leans
    Maybe good for parlay fodder?
Yanks -118 (Sabathia 1-1, 4.81) at Detroit (Verlander 0-2, 9.00) - Verlander has been pretty bad.
Padres +104 (Young 2-0, 3.42) at Rockies (Hammel 0-0, 2.70) - Young has done well against the Rockies in the past. Hammel getting his first start as a Rockie.

Would love to go against the Met's Maine and the Phillie's Blanton tonite, but Florida is in too much of a funk right now, and I don't trust the Nats offense.

That didn't hurt too bad I guess, 2-3 for -.84 units. The Bal/Tex OV 11 was a bummer though as I had 10 runs after the top of the 6th and not another stinking run the rest of the game. Neither lean panned out.
    YTD: Overall 25-17 +9.47 units (Sides 18-10 +9.02 units, RL's 1-2 -.55 units, O/U's 6-5 +1 units) Leans 2-2 -.08 units (leans not counted in overall stats)

    Tuesday
Boston -115 (Penny 2-0, 7.80) at Cleveland (Reyes 1-0, 4.76) - Cheap price for a team that has won 11 in a row. Penny has had 2 decent starts wrapped around one horrible start, which is why his ERA is so high.
    Tampa Bay -108 (Shields 2-2, 3.67) at Minnesota (Liriano 0-4, 7.06) - A pick against Liriano.

Lost them both in the bottom of the 9th. Time for a break, I think.
