  • Dragon's NFL picks - Week 1

New Orleans -13 vs Detroit - Mismatch of epic proportions. Week 16 last year, the Saints traveled to Detroit and dismantled the Lions 42-7. The Saints ran 70 offensive plays in racking up 532 yds and 32 FD's, while the defense held the Lions to just 255 total yds. The Saint defense looks to be improved this year, plus they will have Reggie Bush this time, and, are playing this one in the SuperDome. Kevin Smith is likely to get his share, but tough spot for rookie QB Stafford to debut.
Dallas -6 at Tampa Bay - No T.O. for Dallas, but they do have Barber, Felix Jones and Jason Witten. The Bucs gave up huge yardage at the end of last year, so unless they've improved greatly the Cowboys should be able to move the ball easily. The Bucs fired their OC in preseason and not too scary with Leftwich at the helm. Dallas looking for payback for home loss to the Bucs last year when Romo and Jones were out.
Carolina +1.5 vs Philadelphia - The Panthers return nearly every starter to a team that went 12-4 in the regular season last year, including a perfect 8-0 at home.
Oakland +9 vs San Diego - Likely an unpopular pick, but the Chargers have been slow starters the past couple of years and start off with a tough divisional road game this year. They traveled to Oakland in Week 4 last year, and were lucky to come away with the win. Oakland led 15-0 at HT, and it was a tie game with 2 minutes left in the 4th Q. Raiders have a good 1-2 punch with a now-healthy McFadden and Michael Bush, and QB Russell has looked pretty decent in preseason. I also don't think Oakland's defense is quite as bad as it looked in preseason.

CORRECTION: Dallas is not playing with revenge. They won that game last year in Dallas with Brad Johnson at QB.

    Adding:
Baltimore -13 vs Kansas City - Baltimore is very solid on both sides of the ball and the Chiefs are liable to be very shaky on both sides for a while. Baltimore will be relentless on defense and can really wear the Chiefs down with Rice, McGahee and McClain on offense. This could get real ugly.

Nice call on Oakland last night, although I'm very glad the Chargers at least pulled the win out of their asses!
