A LOOK AT ILLINOIS
Illinois is coming off a bye week that was badly needed to address
some injury issues. This Illini team was looking like a MASH unit.
QB Juice Williams is healthy and is at 100 per cent.
WR Arrellious Benn is expected to play nursing a high ankle sprain.
This will be the first time all year that both players are healthy for a game together.
MLB Martez Wilson is out for the year a major blow to lose
a 5 star player like him for Illinois.
THE ILLINI OFFENSE
Illinois is ranked 16th in the nation in Run Offense at 247 yards per game.
This is quite a change from last year for Illinois. The new OC Schultz who came from TCU has been extremely conservative on offense and is determined to establish a run game at all cost.
The Illini Fan Base is screaming from the mountain tops to release the beast, which is Juice and his passing game.
In the last two games Juice has faced OSU he has thrown for six Td's and only 1 int.
Illinois must get the ball to WR Benn any way they can as many times as they can to keep the buckeyes honest.
There is no way Illinois will run the ball down the buckeyes throat USC couldn't do it and they wont either.
ILLINOIS DEFENSE
The strength of Illinois Defense is inside and stopping the run and this should help Illinois in this game because it plays into the Buckeyes strength which is running the ball.
The Pass defense is HORRIBLE ranked 116th in the nation, Last game vs Little Sisters of the Poor (Illinois State) the Illini gave up over 370 yards in the air on defense to a back up QB. You can just bet Coach Tressell if the buckeyes is licking his chops looking at
that soft spot.
Missed tackles, blown down field assignments in the secondary has killed this team so far. Penalties also are a big issue on both sides of the ball.
OHIO STATE QUICK FLOOR VIEW
The Buckeyes are better running the ball than they are passing, but with Illinois shaky secondary I look for tressel to open it up for Pryor.
The Defensive side of OSU is vulnerable to the option attack and will give up some big plays in trying to adjust to it.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Illini has had some good success vs Ohio St last 10 games winning 7 and they are mainly hard fought battles.
Coach Zook of Illinois has played his play calling very close
to the vest this year and maybe just maybe he was holding back for this game to show case his offense.
The secondary of Illinois will give any coach sleepless nights, Can they limit pryor in his passing game, I don't think so
Osu beat Toledo 38-0 with the dogs being called off in the 3rd quarter. Illinois is certainly a better team than Toledo and I think they are going to show the world they are not a Fluke.
If Illinois plays a turn over free ball game they should be there till the end.
Carpet thinks Illinois will keep this game respectable and well within 14.5
