How is it possible for a major league umpire (who supposedly has been selected for post season based on exceptional skills) to miss basically the only call he is responsible for???
I have been a baseball coach for more than 20 years and don't think I can recall a worse job at any level of baseball than that stiff did down the LF line in game two of twins/yankees on Mauer's ground rule double.
With a six man crew that hump down the line only has a couple of things to watch for and he misses a fair/foul call from 30' away that the HP ump could have called from 285' ??
That wasn't even near the line. There looked to be a good 5-6" between ball and foul line. As much as I hate to say it, MLB needs to get replay more involved.
Stevie Wonder could see that ball was easily fair from that close.
Simply disgraceful.
