  • Smart qbs

I suck at pros but, the three smartest qbs are as follows:
    1) Peyton Manning
2)Philip Rivers (his dad was my coach, trust me he is good)
    3)Brett Farve

LMAO......Brett (and it is spelled) Favre is one of your top 3 smartest QBs? You truly are an idiot.

I'm not sure he could be considered 'smart' in the sense of being 'cerebral', but I don't think Favre could necessarily be called dumb either. He's reckless at times, for sure. He's very "street smart", as he should be with all of that experience. He doesn't stare down his guy, uses a lot of double-pumps and fakes, and he knows what his receiver's and defender's strengths and weaknesses are.
If you figure Manning is the epitome of 'smart', and at the other end of the spectrum you had Cutler, Favre would be a hell of a lot closer to Manning I think

Here are truly the real SMART QBs:

Joe Montana (Notre Dame) 4 Super Bowl Rings

Terry Bradshaw (Louisiana Tech) 4 Super Bowl Rings

Troy Aikmam (UCLA) 3 Super Bowl Rings

Tom Brady (Michigan) 3 Super Bowl Rings

RR84, not sure where you came up with P. Rivers ?????? (yesterday’s Mr. Interception man). What’s your problem with Drew Brees? If he had been the Chargers QB, they would have likely won. As a senior, at Purdue, Brees was named Academic All-American Player of Year. Perhaps, Rivers knows how to make moonshine and Brees doesn’t. Is that the criteria?

Take care – all in fun.

Yeah, I would have included Brees. Also, Dan Fouts, Steve Young and Dan Marino if we are talking historically.

              Dragon,

I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't have even responded in that way had I not seen another unprovoked cheap shot taken by rr at me in another (a chargers/jets) post. So please direct your corrective suggestions at the source and instigator of the problem.

While you guys all have your valid points, no one mentions John Elway in the mix.........While he may not have been the smartest QB ever, he definitely had to be one of the most talented........The guy was absolutely great to watch play the game.

Of today's QB's, the smartest on sheer "quarterbacking" quality has to be Peyton Manning -- who is smarter than his coaches, to put it mildly.........but remember those stories about how he had to bring a can of tuna to his college coach to teach him how to open it........definitely took him a lot longer to do that than it does to open up a defense.............Go figure.

A Brett Favre/Peyton Manning match-up in the Super Bowl would be one for the ages..........These are the two best all-around teams left in contention, so we'll probably get to see this transpire.............I'm all for the city of New Orleans after what they've been through, but where were all of these bandwagoners during the Katrina disaster ?
                ;)

Why aren't Ryan Leaf and Heath Shuler on the list?
They both made millions without having any QB skills.
                  That sounds smart to me.

Hart Attack you may have a valid point. Hardly played a lick and made millions. Never thought of that angle. Back to my original post, I was talking current. And bad as I hate to agree with an earlier post.... No way is Favre(and I hope I spelled it correctly) one of the top three smartest of all time. Neither is Rivers for that matter. But I don't think anyone can disagree he (Favre) is playing at his best right now. In my opinion he is playing as smart as anyone. I should have clarified what I meant when I posted. Agree with several of the earlier posts. I still put Manning in it, you also have to put Montana in the mix. But one I really never thought about and totally agree with Dragon is Dan Fouts. In my opinion... One of the best and smartest of all time. Just trying to make a point that those three in my original post are playing great football and two of them still have a shot at another ring. But like I said I suck at pros.

With a Super Bowl spot hanging in the balance, Brett "The Cajun Idiot" Favre did the unthinkable.

He breaks a cardinal rule from "QB 101" and throws back across his body into the middle of the field trying to force a pass when he could have run for about 7-10 yards and get out of bounds giving an excellent kicker a great shot at winning the NFC title.

But wait! The "genius" throws a signature INT, literally costing his team a possible world championship

So, because of this Einstein's brain fart, instead of having a place in the Super Bowl the Vikes will watch on TV instead of being in Miami. Totally inexcusable buffoonery.

And this clown is on the smartest QB lists?? HAHA! Can't make a more stupid mistake than that in that situation.

Yes, I know the butter fingered Vikings gave the game away with turnovers BUT the title was still there for the taking and Favre snuffed it out with his moronic stupidity at crunch time.

Worse part now is, we will all have to endure the insufferable retirement talk fiasco for yet a third consecutive season.

Hate to, but got to agree with you on this one. He went most of the season playing arguably his best football. Then yesterday he went back to his gambling nature and made a bonehead play. My only argument is that why is everone hanging this on him? What about the AP fumbles? Berrian fumbles inside the ten. Time and time again he gets them down the feild and with all that happened, they still had a chance to win.

So yes he made a dumbass play, but do you honestly think Tarvaris Jackson gets them to that point or more importantly could have handled all the mistakes of his teammates. And again, as pointed out in a later post... Favre in my opinion played some of his best and smartest football this year. (LAST PLAY EXCLUDED). If everyone would take time out and look at what all happened last night, they would realize not many qbs keep their team in it like he did. Most would fold like a cheap suit. I promise you AP isn't blaming him.
