  • College Hopps Discussion starting 2/23

Nice win with Uconn last night and a good way to start the week.

    Tuesday--

Georgetown +3 over Louisville...Like this one quite a bit. I grabbed it last night and bought the 1/2 so I actually got +4 on it. But either way, I think GT wins SU on the road. I do not like this L'ville team that much and GT is off 2 losses. Good opp for a true road win for tourney resume too.

I have been cold as ice lately so keep that in mind if you are considering taking my picks tonite.

I like Florida and Michigan for similar reasons. They are both ranked much lower than their respective opponents (RPI or the polls) so convential wisdom says they should lose. However Vegas has made them favorites so I am going against convential wisdom and taking the Gators and Wolverines both -2.

Also I think Illinois is just too mercurial this year and has trouble stopping really talented players and will let Michigan's two studs get off and open it up for the rest of the team to hit some key 3's.

Also I like Woodee's G town pick. L'ville is not all that.

    Good Luck,

Finally got off the snide last night with Florida-

      Couple of leans 2nite:

Minnesota +4.5 vs Purdue- they have been hitting their stride and probaby can keep it close.

San Diego St +7.5 vs BYU- BYU is very tough but SDSU is hanging around and may be able to pull the shocker. I think they will at least keep it close.

      Good Luck,

posted in the wrong thread yesterday but came out 3-0-1.

5-0-1 for the week I think on posted plays. Only posting and playing my best lately.

        Thursday--

Stanford +3 vs. Arizona State...I cannot cap the pac-10 worth a crap but Stanfords young guns have been improving each game. They are good at home so I will take the points on an ASU team that can lose big on the road pretty easily.

Tulsa +19 over Duke...I may be way off on this one and Duke may win by 50, but I think Tulsa hangs around for some reason. A win would be huge for them and their tourney hopes and thats a long shot, but I think they keep it within 10 at least.

I have the exact same thoughts on the Tulsa game- probably what the books want us to think. I don't see Duke having the motivation to go nuts in a meaningless non conference home game for them.

I also Pacific to bounce back. NM St went nuts on the 3 ball in the second half and I don't see Cal Riverside to hang with them on the road.

I might take a flyer on USC/Oregon under and probably Oregon +11 in what should be an ugly game.

          Good Luck,

Nice call on Oregon. Only in the pac-10 can a 12 point road dog smoke the home team.

I freaking suck on Thursdays....2 weeks in a row where I give all my profit from the week back with basically an 0-fer on Thursday. I reallt think I need to bet the opposite of what I think on that day.

I was 1-1 on my posted plays, but played some others and pretty much went 0-6. I cannot figure out a winner for some reason on this day--maybe I just don't know the conferences as much as I do the others early in the week but for some reason, I am on the wrong side. I play a large fav (Vnady), and the dog wins, I play the dog (Arizona) and its a blow out. Go figure.

Glad I have a day job!

Now I am nervous as hell going into Saturday action and a nervous, scared bet is always a bad bet.

If I see anything I will post it up! GL to you guys too!

Had to sweat out that tulsa game. Got lucky that the 19 held up.

I guess I have to jump off the Pacific bandwagon- too bad, they were a good play most of the year.

Time to rest up for Saturday!

OK- a couple of the earlier games that stand out to me are:

Colorado -4 vs Iowa St- The buffs seem to play much better at home. I don't see the cyclones getting up for this one.

Illinois -3 vs Minnesota. The boilermakers had a good game plan that the illini can follow. Stop Hoffarber (sp?) from getting good looks and make everyone else hit shots. I think the Illini have an easy time of it today.

                Also considering Texas A&M.

Will be back later with some more picks.

                Good Luck,

I am not what it is but the last 2x I have bet on Illinois they have come out god awful in the first half- yesterday against Minnesota and few weeks ago against Ohio St.

                  Moving ahead-

i like NU/Penn St over 130- Penn State has finally won a few games and is playing with confidence. NU no longer has the pressure of trying to secure an NCAA bid on their back and I think will play an up tempo game today.

Indiana +6.5 vs Iowa- Neither team is very good but I don't think Iowa can run away with this game. I am confident it will be decided by 3 points or less on either side.

L'Vill +5 vs Uconn- No other reason than this is the type of game that Uconn has been losing all season. They got on a roll and then drop the ball.

Mich St +4- even without Hummel being hurt, I would have liked the spartans here. This is the time of year they start to pick things up. I like this game to be decided by 3 points or less for either side.

                  Good Luck!

Gotta take a shot with Michigan State +4 don't you.

Know the Hummel injury is probably over blown but MSU is off loss and you have a good team getting 4 against a team who will take a few games to adjust to life without thier star.

Also, taking Canada in the Gold medal game -1 (-110) over USA. Althought I will be rooting for USA, my money is on the canadiens.

                      One for Monday--

Texas -13 over Oklaholma...Two factors are key here--Texas off loss and revenge for the beating they took at Okie. I think Pitmman has a huge game inside too. Think Texas comes out quick should win by 15+.

No college plays for me tonite-

                        One NBA play

New Orleans ML +125 vs the Spurs.

                        Good Luck!

Tough one on Texas as they forgot to show up in the 1st half.

Still think I had the right angle on the game and Okie barely hung on and lost by 11 after leading by 2 at half.

                          Line was tight.

I don't know about the damn NBA too. I had a couple of solid plays I thought with Charlotte and Memphis with 2 teams in better spots than their opponents at home and they both lost. Just a hard sport to cap.

I think your New Orleans play was along those saome lines.
