Laxsfo, Where did you live in Det?

I lived in Beverly Hills, went to Birmingham and Groves.
Any of that ring a bell?
Can't tell you how many old programs I have from the
    Detroit teams as well.
One of my prize possesions are autographs from
    Ted Lindsey and Gordie Howe.

No wonder everyone hates the SEC on this site. All you people are Yankees..lol I know Wisconsin is a westerner and so is Dragon but everyone else except myself and Allsport are Yankees.. lol Hey that is okay with me lol....I think only me and Allsport understand the value of warm weather though...Trust me boys.. It is great to be able to play 18 in December.....

Ha,ha. I'm still up reading Marc Lawrence's "Playbook" with
AJ on the cover. I'm true Southern blood. When I was a pre-teen,
teen my Dad had to transfer up yonder.
Survived and back in the promised land.

But....kinda proves how we get by with sports as our common thread.

Also, rr please don't sell yourself short on the pros and these picks.
BW pointed out how bad all of the ESPN "experts" did in their picks
for the season. It's much better to have an honest view than some
of the BS we get each week. I think, at times, the information on
games and picks is almost too much. It makes it harder to get down
to a true eye for what each team is really going to do, each week and
          over the season.

Yep, very familiar with Oakland County. For a stay of about 2 years, I resided in Farmington Hills around the 13 – 14 mile road area. Also, lived in Detroit, West Dearborn, and Canton Twp. (now Canton City). Left Michigan back in 78 for the left coast and it turned out RIGHT.

At the old Olympia arena in Detroit, I witnessed Number 9 score a hat trick and at a Wings – Ranger game caught a puck from Phil Esposito.
I’ll never forget 68 (Viet Nam War, campus demonstrations, MLK and Bobby K assassinated) yet the Tigers won the series. Good ole Mickey Lolich beat the invincible Bob Gibson in the final game of the series. On a hot night in July 68 at Tiger Stadium, witnessed Denny McLain (31 -6 that year) lose 1 of his 6 losses (LOL).

Now we’re in the 21st century for better or worse depending on your perspective and the Tigers are looking good this year and the kittens are hoping to save Jim Schwarz’s job. He is likely another head coach on his way out in the long line of the Ford family failures. “That’s just the way it is” per Bruce Hornsby.

I will never forget that day, Cards won the 67 series vs Boston and came back in 68 to face Detroit and their famed pitching staff. When Detroit beat my cardinals in 68 I was a young boy 11 years old and I can remember that I cried

Wow, hard to believe our connections.
I still have my stub from game 3. Saw Ray Washburn beat Earl Wilson.
All of those HOFs as well. Carpet, Brock not sliding in game 5 and the
ball over Flood's head in game 7.
Remember that Harry Carry announced the home games with Curt
                  Gowdy.....

Also, laxsfo. I had tickets to a Wed. night game McLain vs. the Yanks.
It was cancelled because of rain. They made it up the next afternoon
and I couldn't go. Anyway, that was the game where McLain
grooved one to Mickey Mantle so he could move ahead of someone
he was tied with (at that time) on the all time homer list.

If either of you hv an interest, there is a great book called "The
Summer of 68" by Tim Wendel. Subtitled the season that changed
baseball and america forever. Came out in 2012.....

red raider, apologies for stealing your thread.
however, you were the one who brought out
the Detroit pick and started all of this.
