Anyone use pokerlive.com? I'm fairly interested in online poker and was wondering what the best sites are, if any.

The only one I know of is poker.com which is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ Over the Counter Bulletin Board.

The thing hasn't really caught on yet though.

      Hey wall,
Planet Poker is supposed to be one of the best. I played there for a couple of months.
Cashed 3 checks 3 weeks in a row for $500
each. Gave back $600, quit then.
Mike Caro endorses them. However believe
that one should be very careful, afterall,
what's to keep out cheaters. Two or more, playing at same table, using phones or 2 or more computers sitting side by side ?
      Peace,
      WWW

Good point WWW re: cheaters. It wouldn't take too long to figure it out though. A few tough beats in a row would create skepticism. I'll check it out. thx.

Planet Poker is ok, but since Paradise came onto the market, they have taken most of the business. Paradise's software is superior and they offer omaha (but not hi-lo yet). You will generally find at least twice as many games going at paradise compared to planet. paradise also allows you to play two tables at the same time, which is extremely useful if you are a tight player and dont play too many hands.

Regarding collusion (which is the type of cheating wayward is dicussing), at the low limits, the players play soooo bad, I doubt it happens, though it may occur at the $10/$20 limits. If I see any questionable raising/reraising, i simply change tables.

I highly recommend paradise, though Planet is also good.

Regarding not catching on yet, I think this is an industry on the move. From the player's perspective it is great. A raked game (which you generally only find in Nevada) as oppose to time or paying on the button, and you don't have to tip the dealers. Personally I love it. I really prefer it to live poker now. On a good night, Paradise has around 20 games going. That is huge if you look at the fact that one poker table makes about a million dollars a year if it runs around the clock (assuming a $3 drop a hand)

I've been in Paradise Poker for about a week now and thoroughly enjoy playing there. This is the first poker software I have tried and it is so good that I don't think I'll ever hit a card casino again.

The software is very stable and they have highly intelligent and intuitive "dealers" that prevent any funny business and keep the games going. I've jacked up $600 to $2,200 and have not taken a payout yet (except for my original $600 back to my credit card) but would definitely recommend this paradisepoker.com to anyone who likes to play poker against other players.

Saving tip money and playing whenever I want without driving to a card casino is definitely a major plus. I never thought I'd like this, but it's just like playing at a casino, except without the embarassment of seeing my red face when I'm bluffing!

Thanks for turning me on to this (I think). It is addicting.

Whoa....Hartley, Poker.com HAS been catching on bigtime without a doubt, in particular with investors. The stock is rising. A matter of fact, this is a stock I might suggest you keep an eye on very closely. Here's an email I got this evening from a guy I know fairly well who runs one of the better known I-Gaming info investment sites:
              He deals with these people.

              >>>Hi Chris,

Can you put a message board for PKER on your site? These guys know what they are doing. They already have 200,000 unique users a month after only being live for 3 months. Think about it, GGNC had a market cap. of up to 100 million one time and GGNC was a total scam. PKER is the real deal. with the market cap only being 6 million right now, I see PKER as a strong buy. PKER right now should be at least at $4 a share. <<<<

Now you guys have got me interested. It all sounds promising but risky. Are any of these outfits as solid as the sports books recommended here?

How could one research further the pros and cons of online live poker? Are there any sites that cover online poker in a way analogous to Bettorsworld’s treatment of sports betting?

Can any non-shills point us wary newcomers in the right direction to investigate online poker in order to make a more informed decision about whether to give it a try?

                    Zippy,

I don't know of any site like this for online poker. These sites are relatively new. I am definitely not a shill. I have played poker for a living previously and can tell you these online sites are pretty good especially if you live outside Nevada where all the live poker games are either a time game or money on the button.

My main concern is collusion (ie players playing in partnership) more so than any cheating on the casino side. However, you have this same problem in real life. Hell, go to vegas and play the 10-20 omaha hilo at the mirage. All you see are partners in that game.

I mainly play omaha so any holdem i play is low limit (2-4 or 3-6) so i cannot vouch for the higher limit holdem games, but I can tell you that I see very little suspicious play at the low limit holdem games or Omaha.

Again, I really like Paradise but I am biased because Planet does not offer omaha. There are actually about 7 or 8 sites up and running right now, but if you look at them you can see that all but Paradise are running the same software as Planet. Paradise has a better interface (probably because it has been developed more recently), better graphics, and you can play two games simultaneously.

Like others here, I am up money in the games, so if they are cheating, they are not doing a very good job of it

Hey Boomer, glad you like Paradise, what is your name there? Mine is "sportbettor" same as here. I am usually playing Omaha.

                      Thanks, sportbettor.

When you deposit money with Paradise (or any of the others), do you feel a comparable level of confidence as you do depositing money for sportsbetting with the books to the left?

What can the people who’ve played there tell us about their track record on withdrawals. Sportbettor, you mentioned that you’re ahead. Have you requested any withdrawals?

I checked out two or three online poker sites briefly, and then spent an extended amount of time at Paradise. I’ve put in a few hours at their practice tables, just to get a feel for the software and such. I like what I see so far. I’ll probably make a small deposit and play at some of the lower stakes tables and see what happens, unless I get some negative feedback on them warning me away from depositing my money.

                        Hey sportsbettor...

I can't say because I used my real name there and I need to keep my anonynomity. I really liked Paradise although I'm not playing there now as I took a payout when my winnings dipped from $1,600 down to $1,000. I didn't want to give back all my cheese as frankly, I'm a pretty lousy poker player (I play way too many hands) and knew if I played longer, I'd give it back.

Plus, it was so addicting, I was spending WAY too much time on my computers. I already spent all day on them, it was becoming night too. I needed to get out of the house and see some real people, i.e. women.

I haven't received my $1,000 payout yet, but I can tell by their processing, email, etc. that these guys are clean and efficient. I think they'll be very successful.

My friend just received a $1300 check (I saw it personally) from Paradise a week ago. I just requested my first $1000 payout and I will let you know when I receive it.

I feel as safe with Paradise as I do with the books on the left just based on the economics and the volume of business they are doing. You have to realize, cardrooms are NOT playing against the player. They are collecting money based on the drop. They cannot lose money on a big bet like a sportsbook can. The reason I feel safe with Paradise is because of the volume they do. Just look at how many tables they have dropping $2-$3 every minute or so.

However, some of the other sites I would worry about. You said you went to a few of them so i am sure you know what I mean. If they only have one game going on, they are in trouble, because they probably have house players/props in it holding it together. (for those that don't play poker, props are players paid by the house to play and hold together games when business is slow). Obviously the props cost money so it is questionable how much money they are really making. And if some new site came along and took all the business from Paradise, i would definitely withdraw my money from them. However, right now they are making millions a year based on their current traffic.

btw, I think the play tables are a big key to Paradise's sucess is actually the play tables that you are currently using. It allows new players to get used to using the software and playing the games.

Here's a little something I recieved related to Poker.com, however, it's more from the investor's view (as it's a publicly traded company), but it does give you an idea how well their business is going. Also, as far as stocks go, this one wa highly recommended to me so why not cash in on the game and play a little of the stock market?

                            >>>Hi,
The company told me that Standard and Poor's had given them a "Blue Sky" rating. I put the phone numbers of the analysts' in gaming for S & P on the PKER thread for you.
From the sounds of my talks with the IR and the CEO, PKER is about to start rolling. Their new JAVA poker rooms should be the turning point for bringing in tremendous revenue (if this is great, they rock, if not, then they will still move, just less so). They are growing at a 75-100% rate by each quarter, revenue wise. 60k in Jan advertising revenue. They are negotiating for their 3rd gen software, done in feb., so it will be going to their liscensees after that. Sounds like they have two more liscencees to announce as well. They said their 10sb will be out on Edgar within a week.
I'm writing up a DD piece for the OTCBB Investor Group (O*I*G) to go out to their 2000+ subscribers, probably tuesday. I like their license set up, a 15% royalty that is flat. If the liscensee is dependent (using one of PKER's URL's--they have hundreds, maybe thousands, really good ones too, as one of their founders established a domain registration early on, ie., poker.com) then they pay 35k up front. If they are independent, they pay 75k up front--use their own URL, still 15% flat rate royalty. As far as the hits from EXCITE for the "hit" names they've contracted for the year 2000. One of them, "Poker," is expected to get 2.5 million hits alone there, with the Poker.com banner there for each of them. Revenue, from what I could gather is going to be showing great results in three months, forcasted to be 250-300k by Sept, monthly. They will probably do over $5 million revenue for this year, current mkt cap is just a little over $5 million. No plans for dilution at this level. Next PP will be at $3.<<<<

                              Zippy,

I just received my first $1000 payout from Paradise and cashed the check today. So all seems legit so far. They also credited my intial $500 deposit back to my credit card immediately after I requested it.
