This is some pretty good stuff. Let it loose. Maybe Jerry Springer should take a look at this? I'll bet 10 dimes I could put the posters together with a gambling discussion in person and there would be a fight before the second commercial.
This scalping topic somehow hit a nerve.
Everybody has their pet peeves. I don't have to like how some places do business but I do need to understand it so I can avoid them and act accordingly.
A book doesn't want wise guy action - Fine advertise that way. A book that has a problem the way another book does business? That's a tough one - Why not let them hang themselves and just take good care of your own ship.

Yes, Nobody has to like the way I think. They can't be forced into booking the right way. I think it's wrong to ONLY accept bets after the moves and not before them. I don't think these people can be called bookies. I think this is wrong and I would hope people agree with me. If they don't who cares. But this is no reason to attack me and my personal life as this IDIOT REALITY has done.

Back to your story about the Monday night football game that rained. What if you moved the total over X +120. You only have 20 minutes. Can you get enough scalper money to keep if from being a bloodbath? Sure you give away the juice and a little more but at least you are not one-sided on a side that looks real bad to you. Sure the scalper burns somebody else with an under but you are covered. Better for you to lose only 5 dimes than 50.
Does that kind of go against the grain of morality of booking?

The problem you have is that the ALL the WISEGUYS are looking to bet the game UNDER at that point and the followers too. (PLAYERS and BOOKS) To get OVER bets on this game you would have to move your line too far so you can make it worth it to get these WISEGUYS to play it OVER.

After all if it is a bet for a MIDDLER/SCALPER, It must not be a good one for you.

The only difference is: Are you being forced into this move? DUMB NON-OPINIONATED ROBOT BOOKIE (or) did you want to do this? SMART OPINIONATED BOOKIE. After the MOVE comes it's usually too late for any damage control. Common sense.

With any move, Even if it is WISEGUYS, It is better to live with the decisions than risk 2 point Middles or more.

To keep saying BOOKIES play one WISEGUY against another is misleading and silly. This is a BOOKIE who is giving away too much. I really don't think you can do this without losing money.

How can you say WISEGUYS take 10-20 per cent of the bottom line. Then turn around and say we BOOKED them against one another? What?

BUT IT'S THE BOOKIES FAULT IF HE GETS MIDDLED. IT'S NOT THE PLAYER FAULT WHO TOOK THE GOOD NUMBER. BOOKIES ALWAYS WANT TO PUT THE BLAME ON THE WISEGUYS WHEN THEY GET MIDDLED. NOT THEIR OWN LACK OF BOOKMAKING ABILITY.

A BOOKIE who takes decisions has a HUGE advantage over the BOOKIE who thinks 2 way action is the right way.

Why? Because they don't get MIDDLED by the WISEGUYS. 1 big problem they never have to worry about.

Most GOOD BOOKIES, Even the ones that AVOID the so-called sharp moves LOVES big decisions. These are the BOOKS that have won the most money. The Idea is not to have the big decisions comming from the WISEGUYS. That's why some books will not take any WISEGUYS action.

But if every BOOKIE was to throw out the WISEGUYS who would move the lines? What would they do? Do you think the WISEGUYS are just going to go away?

This is why I like this post. And REALITY could answer this, But he won't. What would happen if everyone took this SUCKERS ONLY stance?

In what industry if any do they accept this "If you use something to help you (DON BEST or ANY LINE SERVICE) you shouldn't be allowed to play attitude".

Doggie Style, Reality, and Devil, serious question: Instead of moving from one number to the next in any sport, why not hold every number and just move the game on a money-line, like most books do with baseball totals? That way, you can't get middled.

I have to agree with Doggie Style on the suckers only stance. From what you have said it seems as if you are only looking to boot scalpers(but how do you know they are a scalper unless they bet both sides?) So how do you boot a scalper, by booting anyone who constistently beats the Steam or consistently buys the other side after the move?(how can you differentiate a scalper from a sharp player?) You say it is the bosses choice, you will play the game either way. You consult these houses, you are the expert. Why don't you tell the boss there is a right way and a wrong way to run a book, and the right way is EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

It doesn't take rocket science to look at the ledgers and see the these 100 players beat us every year, let's boot them or give them tiny limits. But if everyone uses that BS
Bowmans and Intertops philosophy, what is going to happen. Every wise guy ends up at Olympic and Cris fighting each other, and these shops are grinding out pennies, while all the other books sit around raking in the dough, and do not even need to hire a bookmaker, as they boot anyone that can take advantage of their weak lines. Is that what we want this industry to become?

As far as I am concerned, any books that boots any player for winning, should be officially in the CLINK at all websites, and everyone that goes to these websites should close their accounts with these shops, and tell them exactly why they are doing so.

Where does it end? First it is okay to boot scalpers, then it will be okay to boot middlers, then all winners. I have to side with Reno and Doggie Style on this issue.
