    Countably infinite?

Shawn, I avoided Pure Maths as much as I could thanks

and finite or infinte sub-coverings should perhaps only be talked about with horses, not blonde tart types? Anyway...

Bets like that are silly PR stunts, so no idea what you do with those -- see recent who will be next German manager Intertops deal.

However, what do they do if Patsy comes in and says, hmm, 100 grand on X, off to get married now, be back tomorrow?

      Shawn,

On that Hill's offer. I think they either have "others on request" or it should be refund if it is somebody not mentioned.

I don't think this proposition is any different from "the first goalscorer" etc.

By the way, is the set of all living males countable? Probably so. But I am not so sure.

Males are a countable set, because you can assign each male a natural number. You're number one, I'm number two, Paul Gasgoigne is number three, Kerry Packer is number four, eventually every male gets a number.

        Wouldn't mind Patsy's number meself.

          Shawn,

Maybe you are right, but this is not the answer. You have to show that every male will eventually get his number. Assuming an existence of alien civilizations it does not seem obvious to me. In fact I believe that countability depends on how those civilizations are located.

            Cantor's Diagonalisation procedure works fine.

I bet the punters just love discussions on cosmology and pure maths

Bit of a problem if there are some aliens out that there can change sex though

                Shawn,

Actually, you are right and I am wrong.

I was thinking about some stupid case in which aliens will have no size hence will look like points on the plain. I am just too close to my prelims in topology, I guess.

yeah, countably infinite I guess it is

Buckaroo Banzai and other dimensions notwithstanding

topology? ran away in horror from that too

i enjoyed topolgy in the same sense as I enjoy opera in Italian...looks and sounds very beautiful but i've only vague ideas about what's going on.

I did enjoy connectivity... T1, T2 (Hausdorff), T3, T3.5 (Moore Plane), T4 and all that stuff.

Not my area, though, by any stretch.

The future of soccer betting lies in countably infinite stuff?
