I preferred the previous BW format, both for its lay-out and colors. I'm interested in hearing other opinions, particularly from guys who design Web pages.

I do not like it either. I was used to looking to the left of the browser to read the topics and now I have to adjust my eyes to the center. If you guys could move the Handicapping Central section to the right side of the page then we're in business.

We appreciate the feedback!
As far as the hcapping central links, if you click on BREAKING NEWS, you'll notice that on that page, we have links along both sides, so we really can't move that.
The general idea behind the change, was to make the entire site more accessible. You wouldn't believe how many people have thought all bettorsworld has isa couple of posting forums!
We will work on the colors, as far as the forum goes.
We've changed our look probably 4 times over the years. Each time, we have people that like it, and people that don't. Eventually, people get used to the new look.
Hell, last time we changed, I couldn't stand it! But I got used to it.
All feedback appreciated, Thanks!

I don't like the new format either. Actually, I'm sure I'll get used to the format either way, so that doesn't really matter. But the pages are taking much longer to load (several seconds on direct connection, sometimes a minute or more on 56K modem) with the new page. Never any of these problems with the old page ...

The page also took considerably longer to load for me, and since only a few percent of web users are DSLed this really could be a problem.
My biggest concern about the new site, though, is the space gobbling banner at the top. When I tried to read Sports Book Insider I noticed that about half as much text is on the screen. It makes it very awkward to read.
I understand that as an advertising site you want to be able to splash the sportbook addresses across the top of every page, but it really is a space gobbler and is going to necessarily cut down on the friendliness of the site.

Ok, already said something in the other thread but more thoughts came up.
After trying the new version a couple of more times, I've got to say the speed is definitely much slower than before. It loads fine until you get to the point where you click on a thread.. after that it takes way too long to load the thread. Also pressing "back" to return to the thread list is _very_ slow.
I only have a 64k/128k ISDN connection but loading text forums shouldn't take this long. Was around 3-4 times faster before. I'm talking ~20 seconds for loading a thread now, while it was around 5 secs for me before.
I don't mind the handicapping menu on the left as it doesn't demand all attention and I can ignore it if I want to. But the three lines of books on the top I do mind because they load annoyingly slow for me.
But I still quite like the new colours etc, even though I'm no fan of mustard.. didn't take any for my hotdog at tonight's soccer game.

I have a 28 bps line. Old house with old phone lines. It takes a little longer to load. After the site is loaded and all the surroundings are in the computers cache (temporary internet files), the thread is the only thing that is slightly slower. Not much.
Like the colors. Looks like Tennessee's end zone.

Here's a quote from Jeff:
"You wouldn't believe how many people have thought all bettorsworld has isa couple of posting forums!"
The old html setup allowed one to access the forums without the sportsbook ads. Now, the table at left takes up around 15% of my screen, and I cannot get around the 33 books, now posted at both the top and the bottom. Viewing the banners or links to sponsors is not a problems, I realize BW needs to generate some $$, but THE TABLE TO THE LEFT MUST GO!!!

we have tested at different modem speeds. your 1st time loading the forum it will be sllooww. once cached, your speed will be be similar or better to the old forum.
this is why some people were gatting faster responses and others slower.
also, as an aside please keep in mind the site is meant to be viewed in 800x600 res. if you are running 640x480 please consider a higher res.
