    Bob,

I stand corrected. Your math is right.

Hmm, casino gambling very popular is USA? So not sure there are many countries where people don't like sucker bets

With only 2 groups left to go through on the Final day, some young lad called Nathan Green drilled it home - and you would think left the sponsors having kittens.

The truth is I am almost sure they would have insured themselves against this, and left the Insurance Company with egg on their face!!

Yes, they did. Also talked about how insurance premiums were going up for this sort of thing as the holes in one were becoming more prevalent.

Marcus, "we Americans do not like sucker bets".........PLEASE! 99% of Americans couldn't identify a sucker bet if it came up from the toilet and bit them in the a**.
Gregg's an ok guy. I had many dealings with him during our extended presidential elections.
I've come to understand that not every promo is aimed directly at me, personally. Rest assured that there are plenty of "suckers" who do visit this site for them to aim at.

Could, please, somebody tell me what a "sucker bet" is?

            Thanks.

              gregg,
have been watching this thread for some time & even though i wouldnt risk $100 on it (maybe $10) each player has that right to choose how he/she will play. you are being deceptive by claiming about a 6-1 chance of one of the 10 winning. i see the general consensus of this being a horrible promotion, but to each their own. would have been interesting to see one of these teams sneak in. someone may have had to change their knickers!

                alec,

In international terms, a sucker bet is defined as "betting against Israel versus any of her neighbors".

All you need to know about this bet and his intentions are....

you didn't see another group of 10 teams for $100 that consistented of:

                  duke
                  ill
                  mich state
                  stanford
                  etc

According to his fuzzy math, that group also has a 6/1 chance of winning (just like his ten). So why wasn't this group an option?

So according to Ronbets and Jeff K a "sucker bet" is a bet on an event with low probability.

Then I don't understand why the word "sucker" is used.

Everything has its probability, and the fact that you bet on an "unlikely" outcome doesn't necessarily make this bet stupid. It depends on the odds.

well, American futures markets if they are off the 190% variety could be called sucker bets in general

but not necessarily every team - although pretty likely at that market......
