  • Pay for picks

Just started here about 3 week ago and this site is great but it got me thinking.

What is the general opinion on those handicapping sites that you have to pay for their sportsbetting picks for as opposed to free forums like this one?

Are anyone of these sites worth it?

Im just one of the bettors who is always looking for an edge

NEVER won any money with them...they always promise great numbers, but I haven't come across any that can win over 50%
    good luck

There is some solid handicappers out there that do win. But it's already hard enough to win that paying somebody for picks just takes away from any profit. So you're best off learning on your own. Give your self every advantage possible: use multiple books to find the best lines, use reduced juice sportsbooks, use sportsbooks that give you a free half point, use strict money management. These are just some of the basics you can start with.

Well i have been casually betting for a few years now but have been trying to take it more seriously. I wish I could tell you how many times I went through the "their due" stage or the "must win" game and then the classic betting with your heart rountine.

Thanks for the replys and more opinions are welcome on this subject matter

I'm able to grind out a steady profit every year. Post your email and I'll send you my picks when I have plays. If you want.

Russ B sums it up pretty well.

Sure, there are some solid, hard working handicappers out there. But whether or not using one of them is right for you depends on alot of things.

For one, how much do you wager?

For any recreational player that wagers $500 or less per game, it's hardly worth paying for selections.

Simply because aside from having to hit 53% to break even laying -110, you now must also increase your win percentage just to pay for the cost of the service.

Bettorsworld has a good article pertaining to this.

              http://www.bettorsworld.com/pp/sports-services.htm

To get the most out of sportsbetting in a recreational way, as a hobby, it's much more rewarding to do a little handicapping yourself. Make your own selections. Celebrate when you win and bang your head on the wall when you lose

However, having said that, I must admit that in my years, I have met a couple of very successful players that have used others selections to show a decent long term profit.

They were able to do this by

              1) Having a large bankroll to begin with - The cost of the service was meaningless

              2) They had superior money management skills

              3) They had 30+ "outs" both offshore and local with which to play

#'s 2 and 3 can turn a 53% handicappers selections into a 56 or 57% over the course of a season, particularly with something like college hoops.

              Hope this helps.

30+ accounts thats alot. I have several accounts myself. It would take a very large bankroll to supply all of those accounts but you would definitely get the best line possible.

                  Dr Ray -

That's true to a point. But remember, in this day and age of Neteller and the many other funding methods (e-checks etc.etc.) It's quite possible to have a bunch of accounts without having them funded.

You see a number you like, you simply fund the account for enough to cover the wager........

I have been handicapping for many years, as time goes on, from the days of looking at every peroiodical available, and crunching numbers, and hours upon hours of studying.....

To now with the information highway at our finger tips, and all the info a person needs to make a calculated choice....I pick my teams and THEN and only then look at others opinions on games, and try to, with my info and others try to find a consensous pick. I do well...in the 70% range every year....Although not a huge money player...I do still work for a living.

Its more of a satisfaction in picking games, and knowing that my studies have led me the right way. My wagering pays for my Golf, Sushi, and Cubans....And an occasional killer night out for me and my girl

Hey Scrap.....70% ?.....That's phoenomenal !!!!.....I would have retired years ago if I could hit THAT number year in and year out.......Unfortunately though, for 90% of the players on this site, about the only way to make a small fortune on football betting, is to start out with a large one......
                      ;)

winning consistently isn`t that hard...its a matter of spreading your money to the right games...my *top* play of the week might bomb...but then I make up for it with my other picks...or the opposite happens...if you want some freebies...I can email you my weekly picks...I`m doing well on freesportsmonitor and gurutracker....you can check me out under *Carson James*...get some free picks from good *free* cappers and do a consensus on the picks...maybe that can work for you.

I been capping for 12 years and the work and information that is required to constantly make money is tough to do. I use a pay service that I feel is top notch. I wasted alot of money tring to find the right service. If you have any questions email me. Treat it like a business, starting out small and good risk management it can be very rewarding.

I, like the starter of this thread, just discovered this site at the start of this football season, and boy do I love it. I'm 30, live about 30 minutes east of Pittsburgh, of course a huge Steelers fan, and have been trying to figure out this game for 15 years. I have come out modestly ahead 2 of the last 3 years, but before that I would always end up behind. I was what you would call "Joe Public". I'm going to post my email, and if any of you cappers want to add me to your list, I would greatly appreciate it. Bodi
