    More Wednesday - June 4

National League - Some decent possibilities for today in the N.L.

Cubs/Padres OV 7.5 +105 - (Lilly 5-4 5.54 vs Maddux 3-4 3.69) Cubs bats are hot and they got Maddux pretty good last time. Lilly has been giving up lots of runs lately. First 2 games of the series have been 7-6 and 9-6.

Pittsburgh +109 vs Houston - (Duke 2-4 4.41 vs Oswalt4-5 5.45) - Astros in an offensive funk have only scored 8 runs in the last 6 games. Oswalt not the same pitcher he has been in the past. In the last 7 years he's never given up more than 18 HR in a season and he's already given up 16 dingers in just 76 innings.

Cincinatti -101 @ Philadelphia - (Volquez 7-2 1.46 vs Myers 3-6 5.52) - Maybe Volquez can quiet those Phillie bats. He's definitely faring better than Myers. Griffey may just get that #600 tonite as Myers has given up 15 already (compared to 3 for Volquez). The Reds have been close in this series so far with two 1 run losses.

St Louis -115 @ Washington - (Wellemeyier 6-1 3.16 vs Lannan 4-5 3.52) Washington has only scored 1 run total in the last 3 games. Their injury list keeps getting longer. Since May 1 they've put 6 starters on the DL. Pujols may be out for the Cards.

          Thursday - June 5

          National League

Cubs +124 @ LA Dodgers - (Dempster 7-2, 2.75 vs Billingsley 4-6, 3.29) Not sure why the Dodgers are the favorite. In the past 13 games, where they have gone 3-10, they have scored 1 run or less 8 times and only 2 runs once! 3 of those games were vs the Cubs where the Dodgers scored exactly 1 run each game. Of course the Cubs didn't exactly tear it up in those 3 games either scoring 3, 3 and 2. One of the matchups was between today's pitchers. Billingsley went 6 innings giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits, with 7K's....although he did give up a 2-run dinger to Derrek Lee. Dempster went 7 giving up just the 1 run on 7 hits to get the win. The Dodgers have a pretty decent list of injuries and now may be without OF Matt Kemp for 4 games, pending appeal.

San Diego +105 vs NY Mets - (Banks 2-0, 0.00 vs Pelfrey 2-6, 4.98) Banking on Banks to have another good showing. So far in 2 starts and 1 relief appearance he has gone 17 innings without giving up an earned run. In his last start he pitched a complete game shutout vs SF, with 0 BB. He only threw 101 pitches in that game, 69 for strikes. Pelfrey has been up and down and has not had a 'W' since 4/15. The Pads may be able to actually score some runs tonite.

Florida +144 @ Atlanta - (Nolasco 5-3, 4.48 vs Jurrjens 5-3, 3.45) - I won with Nolasco last time out vs the hot Phillies so I'll give him another shot as he is now 4-0 over his last 5 starts. Also, he got knocked around pretty good earlier this year by the Braves so I'm sure he'll be looking for redemption. Jurrjens has slipped a little lately after a hot start and has gone 1-1 with 3 no decisions over his last 5 starts and has made it past 5 innings only once during that time.

            Leans -

              Parlay 2 - Underdog special - Pays over 9 to 1
St Louis +125 vs Washington (Game 2) - (Parisi 0-2, 6.38 vs Redding 6-3, 3.71) - Not sure Washington can score enough to win. They are in an offensive funk right now. Parisi had the one bad outing last time out in his first starting assignment that sent his ERA up. Hopefully he'll be better this time.
Florida +150 @ Atlanta - see first post today
Pit/Hou OV 9 -110 (Maholm vs Backe) - Houston has to break out the bats sooner or later. And Backe should be good for a few runs.

Well the underdog special certainly had potential, but that's why it pays 9 to 1.
Pit/Hou started out big with 6 runs in the 1st 2 innings....I thought that was a gimme...but only 1 run in the final 6! Florida was up by 2 at one point but couldn't hold it. And St. Louis loses on a 10th inning dinger. All in all every team had a decent shot.

                    Friday - June 6

                    National League -

Chicago Cubs +109 @ LA Dodgers - (Sean Gallagher 3-1, 4.55 vs Hiroki Kuroda 2-5, 3.93) - For the life of me, I can't figure out why L.A. has been favored in these first 2 games. The Cubs have won 10 of their past 11 with the only loss being a 2-1 set-back to Greg Maddux and the Padres. They have won 21 of their last 29 games and currently are in 1st place with the best record in baseball. The Dodgers are 3-11 in their last 14 games and have lost 5 of the last 6. They have scored a total of 16 runs in those last 11 losses and half of their projected starters at the beginning of the season are on the DL. I'll take the Cubs again as underdogs.

                    American League -

Angels -109 @ Oakland - (Lackey (1-1, 1.80 vs Blanton 3-7, 4.27) - Both teams have been pretty hot lately, but that's what happens when you face teams like Detroit and Seattle. The A's, though, have only won in 4 of Blanton's 13 starts this year. In Lackey's 4 starts this year, he has gone a total of 30 innings (7.5 per game avg) and only given up 6 earned runs on 25 hits. The longer term stats show that Lackey is 12-3, 2.84 in 23 career starts vs the A's including 6-1, 1.87 the past 8.

                      Friday - June 6

                      Parlay fun!

                      Parlay 1 - pays 4.8 to 1
                      Cubs +109 @ Dodgers - see above write-up on Cubs/Dodgers
Red Sox -155 vs Seattle - (Colon 3-0, 3.50 vs Hernandez 3-5, 3.29) Boston and their 25-4 home record vs Seattle and their 7-20 away record. Colon has faced Seattle once this season going 7 innings and giving up only 1 run on 5 hits. He faced Hernandez in that game who gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in 7.2 innings, including a dinger to Ortiz who unfortunately won't be in there this time. Hernandez has only 1 win (vs lowly Detroit) over his last 8 starts.
Mets -146 @ San Diego - (Santana 7-3, 3.20 vs Wolf 3-4, 4.33) - Wolf hasn't pitched too badly lately, he just doesn't get much run support. In order for the Pads to win they pretty much have to shut down the opposing teams offense. The Mets should have a much better than average chance here.

                      Parlay 2 - pays 5 to 1

Marlins -131 vs Cincinatti - (Cueto 4-5, 5.11 Florida vs Miller 4-4, 5.37) - Florida returns home from an ugly road trip. Hopefully things get better as they are 18-12 at home this year vs the Reds poor 10-22 road record. Cuerto has not won on the road this year in 5 starts (0-4 with 1 no-decision).
Tampa Bay -129 @ Texas - (Kazmir 5-1, 1.22 vs Padilla 7-2, 3.67) - Kazmir is the hot pitcher having won 5 starts in a row. Those 5 starts have totalled 33 innings of work that have seen him give up only 2 runs on 16 hits. One of those wins was against Texas where he went 7 innings and gave up only 1 run on 3 hits with 10 K's and 0 BB. Padilla's hasn't pitched since 5/26 due to a family emergency so he may be a tad rusty. That last start happened to be against Tampa Bay where he took a loss in giving up 5 runs over 6 innings on 7 hits, including 2 dingers.
                      Anaheim -109 @ Oakland - see above write-up on Angels/A's

                        Friday - June 6

                        Thoughts and Leans -

                        Leans -

Houston -129 vs St Louis - (Moehler 2-2, 4.54 vs Looper 7-4, 5.03) - St. Louis coming off of a long double-header last night. Houston has done OK at home this year (15-9) and Moehler hasn't given up more than 3 runs in any of his 5 starts. Looper can be scored upon and his record looks pretty good due to terrific run support. Pujols has been limited to pinch hitting duty the last couple of games so hopefully he won't be in the lineup and the Cards may be a bit weary.
Giants/Wash UN 7 -105 - (Lincecum 7-1, 2.23 vs Bergmann 1-2, 4.50) - Two run-challenged teams with decent pitching going and Washington coming off of that double-header last night where they got their runs for the week in Game 2.

                        Thoughts -

                        One to think about-
Tex/Tampa OV 9.5 Even - The last 6 games at Texas have averaged over 18 runs per game! If this one is to go over then Tampa will have to score around 6 at least probably.

Longshots that may be worth a shot -
Phillies +135 @ Atlanta - Atlanta has that tough home record but Phillies have been hot too.
Pittsburgh +145 vs Arizona - Arizona has Webb going but their offense has been non-existent lately.
Minnesota +167 @ Chicago - Chicago got off the schneid vs floundering Kansas City but shouldn't be this big of a favorite here.
Indians +145 @ Detroit - Equally disappointing teams. Verlander at 2-8, 5.16 going for the Tigers.

Mets look like they are resting Church and Delgado or else I'd go ML.

The Cubs would have made it a profitable day. Oh well, you can't expect to win everyday I guess.

                                Saturday June 7

Early parlay - pays a little over 6 to 1
Yanks (RL) -1.5 +105 - (Pettite vs Bannister)
                                Yanks/Royals OV 9 -110
Cubs -117 @ Dodgers - (Zambrano vs Lowe)

KC is 1-11 last 12 road games and 3-22 at Yankee stadium since 2001. Bannister has a 13.50 road ERA his last 4 road starts. Yesterday's loss to KC dropped the Yanks into the cellar of the A.L. East. Lot's of people won't be happy.
