  • The Vikings should have retaliated.

The Vikings should have retaliated. Like a baseball pitcher would. Or a hockey team. You don't let your QB take those cheap shots again and again. Hit Brees hard, even if it is late. Take the 15 yard penalty. That's the only way to stop the Saints from taking out Favre. The Saints were willing to take the penalties and it worked.

One of Brett's offensive linemen should have decked any guy who decked Brett late. Deck him late, whatever. Let them know there will be retaliation. It's the only way to prevent what happened.

The Saints planned to do this. Not just hit him, but hit him late and hard. They did it to Warner the week before. There may not have been a bounty but it was the plan and you know the coaches instructed them that way.

I'm not being wimpy about protecting the QBs. The guy is stationary and a 300 lb guy is coming at him full steam. It's not a fair fight. A running back is stronger and has some momentum and power to avoid taking the full force of the blow. But no QB can stand up to it if a guy really wants to take him out.

Any team that wants to take out an NFL QB can do it. They don't do it during the regular season. Kind of a code of the road. But with the Super Bowl at stake the Saints clearly have targeted the other team's QB.

The NFL has to protect the QBs or all fans would have to get used to watching 2nd and 3rd stringers try to lead their team. The NFL has to protect the quality of their product.

If I were Childress, I would have told my D lineman to deck Brees, even late.

I know where you are coming from but blame Childress not the Saints.

There was no reason to drop Favre back 40+ times when they were able to run the ball at will.

Instead, they fell in love with the pass and gave the Saints license to come after Favre time and time again.

There is a reason Manning, rarely gets hit. He keeps it balanced with the run, throws short passes and when he goes deep he throws the ball on time.

The Vikes only have themselves to blame in my opinion. They left Farve out to dry and the Saints took advantage.

One of the 15 yard penalties for roughing the passer was really weak.

There was one in particular that was weak...a bam-bam play, but the funny thing is it was followed a few plays later by one that was blatant and not called. Go figure.

IMO, the Vikings' inability to run the ball effectively without fumbling it repeatedly may have played a role in their decision to become "pass happy".

Greg Williams is getting a lot of heat and attention for more comments he made on a radio show about taking Manning out.

Refs will be watching tightly now and Colts will be ready and will retaliate if necessary.

The NFL said the high low hit on Favre should have been called. And that resulted in an INT. Could have saved the Viks with just that one call. But the Ref had just called one on the Saints so he was probably reluctant to hear the Dome boos again.

I think it was a big tactical mistake for Greg Williams to make those comments.

It is the opposite of NBA coaches whining about fouls on the road before a home game and then getting the call. Phil Jackson is master at that.

Anyhow, I think the refs will be watching any hits on the QB closely which favors the colts as they are not an all out blitz team.

If there are any questionable hits on Manning, I'm sure a flag will be thrown.

I need to look for a prop on that one...
