Everyone of you is correct. The Phone service is the biggest problem of them all. Intheknow is right about HOW ARE these books going to get great phone service? It's just not possible. The phone guys do beat around the bush all the time. They have screwed alot of books with phones that didn't work!

Intheknow, The guys that programed the system that costs that office 300 to 400 thousand dollars ignored tons of important features that the system needed to have. That system wasn't even close to being ready! I would guess that of TODAY it is still not finished! And alot of offices are using this program.....Wow.

How can you not see that money was being added to the amount bet on teams AFTER the games started. Most places would have caught that in 2 or 3 days. How can you use a system that isn't finished!!! That's what happens when you build a book with total suckers and you don't have to keep your eye on the BUSINESS. That place has horrible managment but everybody thinks they are great. What a joke....

The real problem is that the clowns that provide the programs don't understand what the program needs. If you write a program for a sports book without knowing EVERYTHING it needs it will not be any good. You just can't keep adding things and expect it to run perfectly.

JC.... When you say people are in this industry that shouldn't because they don't have good computor programs. What are you talking about? Just because you might have a PROGRAM that take bets better than the other Books makes you a BOOKIE? The internet is hurting this business not helping it! It only helps the ones that have no problem taking bets over the internet.

The problem is that ANYBODY with money even though they have no clue about this business can get a computor program and advertise to take bets and become a bookie. A murderer can breaks out of prison can start taking bets over the internet and NOBODY would know.

The internet, Not just with the sports books has open up to all sorts of people including the scam artists. It also lets kids make bets over the internet and that's the major problem! If I had the internet when I was 10 or 11 I would be betting every day. I did everything else and believe me I would have found a way to make the bets.

I don't believe any program makes a sports book!!!!!! Books that take bets over the internet can afford to give bonuses and lower juice because they DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYBODY TO WORK FOR THEM. This hurts the real bookies who take all the players bets and are losing SUCKER players to these Bu****it internet books. They can't give compete with these so-called books.

And I don't like these INTERNET books because now EVERY BOOK IS FORCED TO TAKE BETS ON THE INTERNET! Some books don't want to do this but now have to, or they won't have any business.

Just like all these books will NO LONGER HIRE AMERICANS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO COMPETE WITH THE BOOKS THAT PAY LOCALS much less. With the internet you can pay even LESS people to work for you.

You have People that put alot of money over time into their books and now because of the internet they are competing with people that don't need anything but a computor program and a phone line.

Yes this hurts the industry, but it's the computor based books that are doing it. The SOLID books that have been open for years NOW have to compete with these low budget COMPUTOR PROGRAMED BOOKS that are opening every day.

        That is very disturbing............

          Intheknow,

You know for a fact that the programers are the ones that made these bets?

Doggie, don't forget that many books have hired a bookmaker who really could be replaced with a computer program.

              Doggie,
That's the way I heard it. Some,(maybe not all) of the programmers did this and then opened accounts with their friends names to get access to the betting part of the program. I think I would be stringing somebody up by the b*lls

The fiber-optic cable called MAYA 1 will touch Costa Rica's land this month and will start operation very soon. With that the internet and phone communication will be faster and better since it won't depend on satellites; and the best of all...the prices will drop which will be good for the Sportbooks too.

                  Brujo,

If the Costa Rican goverment claims it will be ready by the end of this month you can lay 10 to 1 that it wont be ready for at least 6 months.

                  doggie- AMEN

A fiber optic cable would be a big boost to Costa Rica books. I would think this would also tempt other books to move from Antigua and other places.

As far as communication goes Antigua seems to be the best to me. The main reason is probably because Cable & Wireless provides all the phone service there and they are pretty good size. If I am not mistaken they have an underground cable(s) that runs from Florida to Antigua.

                        Johnny D,

I am wondering how you know Dunes lost 9 out of 10 days real recently. This is the 2nd time you have stated this in the last few months. First it was 5 dimes, now it's the Dunes.

                        What gives.....

I am not bashing ya, but when I read these statements, I like more facts.

Dunes had no issues this past weekend with any slowness or anything. I know they were hopping with business, so help me out here.

As for this thread, I believe the books are limited with what they can do, due to geography. I also think that they would all have the best systems $$$ could buy, to keep players from going to other shops. These guys lose $$$ when their systems are slow, are you going to sit and hope your bet goes thru, or are you going to try elsewhere?

Most go try elsewhere and get it in if at all possible.

One of the reasons most have multiple outs, besides looking for the best odds for what they want to bet, scalp, middle etc etc...

One of my pet peeves, is going thru all the steps to get to the lines and then bet.

I don't mind the confirmation, that is standard and great to have. After that click on this for viewing odds, or click here to make bets or click here for this sport.

Idea to all sportsbooks. Make a click where you list all the upcoming wagering events in a 1-2 hour time frame. Most bet before game time, or an hour or so before, this may help a tad, maybe it won't. Just an idea.

I wish all luck in their bets !!!!!

From what I understand-there has been little or no progress made by the Iowa company on the internet congestion issue. The weekend ahead looks rough. Hopefully a miracle will happen. All internet players are advised to get their plays in as early as possible.

                              JD,

All types of players like to bet right before the kickoffs, even more so on the late games. A player should NEVER be told when they can make bets. A book that can't handle taking the bets right before the kickoff has a very big problem!

The books are holding the players MONEY. If a player isn't able to place bets, That player should find themselves another book. They (the books) are under staffed and under computored. And the book should PAY for the TRANSFER and be told why they won't play with them anymore! After all they are all pretty much the same.

That's the only thing that will change this problem. It isn't new!

Nobody wants to BOOK anymore, anyway. 9 out of 10 of these books are 7-11 joints!!!!! You should play with the ones who don't have these UNACCEPTABLE PROBLEMS.

                              Sometimes SMALLER is better..........

Most of the big books could care less about any 1 customer. They only care if you are a WISEGUY or something like that. And if you are a sucker they will take advantage of you for it.

Isn't it funny how it was the BIG BOOKS that wanted EVERYONE to change to a 20 cent line in baseball?

                              **** these books..........

Lets face it. The internet screwed things up. It was better (in my opinion) before the net took over. Now everybody sits there, with every book open trying to look for a scalp or a mistake. It was more fun before. I don't think this was what Bill Gates had in mind.
