2008 PREAKNESS
CONTENDERS
- With the Kentucky Derby
behind us it's time to set our sites on the
2008 Preakness Stakes. Let's take a look at
a couple of the contenders in this race. Of
course the question everyone is asking is,
are these legitimate contenders to win the
Preakness, or is everyone else just running
for 2nd behind Big Brown?

the 92nd running of "The Greatest Spectacle

honor of being the 3-1 favorite to take the
crown.

HORNETS VS SPURS
- If there is one thing
we’ve learned over the last few years about
people from New Orleans, it’s that they know
how to pick themselves up and dust
themselves off after trying times and it
seems like the city’s NBA team is exhibiting
the same qualities.

BIG BROWN FAVORED TO
WIN PREAKNESS - It should
come as no surprise that Big Brown, the
horse that just won the Kentucky Derby, is
favored to win the Preakness Stakes at
Pimlico on May 17th. Most Kentucky Derby
winners are favored to win the Preakness.
But perhaps Big Brown is even more deserving

TRIPLE CROWN WINNERS
- Triple Crown winners are
a rare breed. There have only been 11 of
them since they started calling the Kentucky
Derby, Preakness and Belmont races the
"Triple Crown" back in the early 1930's.
Many have come close, winning the Derby and
Preakness, but only 11 have completed the
task which shows you just how difficult it
is.

BETTING FAVORITE-
The post positions have been drawn, odds
have been set and seemingly infinite crates
of bourbon alongside sugar syrup and mint
are in storage—in anticipation for all the
Mint Julep that will be consumed at the
famous Churchill Downs track this weekend.

KENTUCKY DERBY HEAD TO
HEAD MATCHUPS - There are
lots of different ways to bet on the

exotics such as exactas and trifectas, and
then our favorite, the head to head matchups.

KENTUCKY DERBY
TRIFECTA - EXACTA - WIN PLACE SHOW BETS
- Derby Day is upon us!
The field for the 134th running of the
Kentucky Derby is set and post positions
should play a factor in the outcome. In this
sub par crop Big Brown might be the best,
but he has many things to overcome and will
be a bad bet at 3-1.

popular the NFL is amongst the betting
public. One need only look at the wagering

right now…before the draft has even taken
place as many sportsbooks have posted Early

NBA PLAYOFF BETTING
TRENDS - The NBA playoffs have
already produced several interesting
storylines and entertaining games. Shaquille
O’Neal, who was acquired by the Phoenix Suns
to try and provide an answer to the Spurs’
Tim Duncan, hasn’t been able to foil the San
Antonio star, which is one of the reasons
Phoenix is down 2-0 in the series.

DE LA HOYA VS FORBES
- Though Oscar denies it,
this bout is nothing more than a tune up for
a mega fight between himself and Floyd
Mayweather in the fall. Forbes was
handpicked by De La Hoya to be the opponent
for this "home coming" of sorts. Oscar has
not fought in Los Angeles in roughly 7
years.

2008 KENTUCKY DERBY
PICKS-
With the Kentucky Derby now less than two
weeks away and (in my eyes) no bona fide
favorite, there are tons of questions to be
asked and mounds of data to be analyzed.
Even then, any number of yet-unforeseen
factors will contribute to how this race
plays out—post position, track condition, a
bad step

|
|
|

|
KENTUCKY DERBY
CONTENDERS-
This year’s running of the Kentucky Derby
will be a very hard one in which to predict
the outcome of the race. Many of the runners
have questions marks and very few are coming
into the race off of back to back wins. The
Bluegrass had many intriguing storylines.
Monba looked great winning, but who can
forget his dreadful performance in the
Fountain of Youth?

PISTONS VS SIXERS
SERIES PREVIEW - This
series is the perfect example of a classic
David and Goliath match up. The 76ers have
made some much needed improvement this
season after the AI era, but to say that
they will even take one game against the
veteran Detroit Pistons is ridiculous.
|
|
|
|

|
ROCKETS VS JAZZ NBA
PLAYOFF SERIES PREVIEW -
Early in the season when Yao Ming went down
I was absolutely sure that the Tracy McGrady
and the Rockets were finished for the year
once again by yet another devastating injury
to one of their key players, but little did
the world know that they would dominate the
Western Conference and win an amazing record
stetting 22 games in a row.
|
|
|
|

|
RAPTORS VS MAGIC
SERIES PREVIEW -
Last season I would’ve said that this
series would be a compelling match up with
an unpredictable outcome, but this season
the Magic have gone no where but up the
ranking in the East and overall in the NBA
as the Raptors have done the complete
opposite by losing their edge and regressing
back to a mediocre team in the East.
|
|
|
|

|
WIZARDS VS CAVS SERIES
PREVIEW
- These two teams match up
with each other pretty evenly, obvious no
one besides Kobe Bryant can really play one
on one with King James, but honestly, if the
Wizards have a healthy Gilbert Arenas and
can somewhat contain LeBron from doing what
he did to Detroit last season, Washington
will win this series.

|
HORNETS VS MAVS
PLAYOFF SERIES PREDICTION-
The Hornets have been nothing short of
amazing all season long, lead by quite
possibly the new best point guard in the NBA
and maybe this year’s MVP in Chris Paul. The
problem with the Hornets going into this
match up is that they have absolutely no
experience in the playoffs with this squad
|
|
|
|

|
CELTICS VS HAWKS
SERIES PREDICTION- Much
like the Lakers and Nuggets, the Boston
Celtics should just roll over the Hawks
without much effort or struggle. No one in
the NBA is playing defense like Kevin
Garnett and his boys in green right now, the
Celtics are the most defensively sound team
I have seen in a long time.
|
|
|
|

|
SPURS VS SUNS PLAYOFF
SERIES PREVIEW-
It is a shame that one of these teams is
going home after the first round because
these are two really good basketball teams
that could both get to the finals this
season, but unfortunately they are meeting
in the first round instead of later in the
playoffs like they did last season.
|
|
|
|

|
NUGGETS VS LAKERS
PLAYOFF SERIES PREVIEW
- Any 7 game series with Kobe
Bryant on one side has the advantage
already, but with the Denver Nuggets having
one of the most talented teams in the NBA
with Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus
Camby and Kenyon Martin in the starting
lineup you can never count them out or call
them an underdog.
|
|
|
|

|
NBA PLAYOFF UNDERDOGS
- This year’s playoff race in the NBA
has been crazy, especially in the Western
Conference where no more than 2 games
separate the top 6 teams. One day the Lakers
could be the #1 seed and the next day be
struggling to maintain the #5 or #6 seed.
There are always frontrunners or teams that
are favorites for the NBA finals or
Conference finals, but this season any team
from #1 to #8 (in the West) has a chance to
make it to the promise land and take down
the big dogs like the Los Angeles Lakers,
New Orleans Hornets or the San Antonio
Spurs.

43, to take on Super Middleweight Champion,
the undefeated Joe Calzaghe, (44-0, 32 KOs).

who is a -240 favorite to Hopkins +190

BASEBALL DIME LINE
- Betting on sports is a
numbers game. Those who get the best prices,
or odds, generally win over the long run. In
no sport is this more true, than in
Baseball. If you plan on betting on baseball
games, it's in your best interest to seek
out sportsbooks that deal a Dime Line. Also
known as a 10 cent line.

2008 FINAL FOUR PICKS
- Even though this
tournament has seen some unlikely victories,
a Cinderella team in Davidson and big time
schools like Duke and Georgetown go down
very early, it has shaped up just the way
all the experts have predicted with North
Carolina, UCLA, Memphis and Kansas
dominating (well, with some close calls)
their competition and making it all the way

After a week

We are down to just 16 teams, with some

there will be very disappointing upsets of
teams that seem to be unbeatable or very
