UCONN at Louisville

Another small hoops card today, but we do have a couple of marquee matchups with Texas traveling to Oklahoma State and UCONN traveling to Louisville. Here, we'll take a quick look at the UCONN at Louisville matchup.
This game matches two teams that had much higher hopes. Both are now in serious jeopardy of making the NCAA tournament this year. In fact, short of winning the Big East tournament, it looks like these two will be headed to the NIT. It shows you how deep the Big East is though, as both squads are capable of playing with anyone in the country.
UCONN is coming off back to back losses which I think, did them in for the year. Losing at Providence was the nail in the coffin, but following up with a home loss to Marquette likely sealed the deal. Those losses came on the heels of knocking of the #1 team in the Nation. Go figure.
Things aren't any better for Louisville. They have dropped 4 out of their last 5 including a game they should have won against #9 West Virginia. Meanwhile, Louisville coach Rick Pitino is busy blaming the officiating for his losses instead of taking a good look at his own teams shortcomings.
Playing without coach Jim Calhoun no doubt has affected this UCONN team. Many in Connecticut speculate Calhoun saw this coming and figured now was as good a time as any to take a leave of absence.
If you take a look at the teams of UCONN's caliber that Louisville has played, you'll see that they aren't putting those teams away at home. Likewise, no one is putting games out of reach against UCONN with the exception of that breakdown at Providence last week. UCONN has played everyone close. No need to think that won't continue here tonight. UCONN players have stated that they can't wait to get back on the court to get the taste of that home loss out of their mouths. Here's their chance.
Expect this one to come down to the wire. We'll call it Louisville 74-72, so take the points here. UCONN +6
