2013 Ole Miss

College Football

Preview

Odds and Schedule

After two straight losing seasons, Huge Freeze already has the Ole Miss faithful looking up after finishing 7-5 last year, including a bowl win over Pittsburgh. An even better season is expected with 15 returning starters and a Top Five recruiting class. While the Rebels had a winning record last year, they finished 3-5 in the conference which was good for fifth in the SEC West. Their biggest win came against Mississippi State in the last game of the season and they lost to anyone else of importance. In Freeze's second year, it's time to get that important win.

Once again we have quite a difference in odds to win the BCS Title when comparing to top sportsbooks prices. 5 Dimes has Ole Miss listed at 85 to 1 while sportsbook.ag has Ole Miss listed at odds of 500 to 1. Always shop for the best prices!

The major question in the Ole Miss offense is the status of Bo Wallace who missed all of spring practice due to shoulder surgery. Wallace is expected to be 100 percent for the start of the season, but that's not always a given. Wallace played well in his freshman season and is this team's best chance at winning. He'll be flanked once again by the shifty Jeff Scott at running back and fan favorite Donte Moncrief out wide. Moncrief finished the 2012 season with 27 catches in the last four games which just shows how important he is to the offense.

Defensively, Ole Miss struggled mightily against better teams last year. They gave up 66 points to Texas and 41 to a non-explosive LSU team. Linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche led the team in tackles as a freshman and is vital for the unit going forward. In Freeze's first year, this defense improved which is something they'll have to do again to be successful.

The Rebels open the season at Vandy who also has high expectations going into the season. Their questionable pass defense will get a true test going against some of the best receivers in the conference. Just two weeks later, they'll get to travel to Texas and hope they don't allow 60 points again. Their schedule doesn't stop there as Ole Miss will have to travel to Alabama then play Texas A&M and LSU in the matter of four weeks. Getting one win out of those five games listed will be an improvement over last year.

If Wallace is not ready to go for the season opener, it's going to be a long first couple months of the season for the Rebels. Their offense will need to be clicking early on for them to stand a chance against the SEC powerhouses. Nine wins is the goal for Ole Miss, but seven or eight is probably more realistic.
