2013 TCU College Football

Preview

Schedule and Odds

The Horned Frogs only finished 7-6 last year in their first season in the Big 12, but it was actually a really respectable campaign considering everything they had to go through. The good news is that they will likely be better in 2013 which is why many have TCU ranked inside the Top 20 at the moment. Casey Pachall is back after being suspended. While he hasn't been named the starter yet, he will likely overtake Trevone Boykin who played well as a freshman last year, but was ultimately too raw and struggled mightily against better defenses.

TCU is getting some respect from the oddsmakers as well. Their first game is August 21st against LSU, a game that will take place in Arlington, Texas. While TCU is an underdog in that game, it's by just 5.5 points. Those odds are courtesy of 5 Dimes Sportsbook.

Along with the question of who's going to be QB, every other offensive position still has some question marks. B.J. Catalon will lead the running backs even though he failed to find the end zone last year. Fortunately, Waymon James will be back after going down early last year with an injury. Also in the mix is Aaron Green who transferred over from Nebraska. Leading wide receiver Josh Boyce is gone which will hurt, as he caught 127 balls over the last two seasons. Also gone are two All-Big 12 offensive linemen. Needless to say, this offense has some things to patch up, but in reality they could be better than last year considering all of the transitions that had to be made in 2012.

The biggest positive for this TCU squad is that nine starters and 21 of their top 23 defenders will be back. This is a unit that finished as the best defense in the conference last year and can only improve. 2012 wins at Texas and Baylor were highlighted by a stout defense that shut down some of the best offenses in the country. Much like the team they lost to in a bowl game last year (Michigan State), TCU is respected because of their defense, but also isn't a walk over offensively.

2013 TCU Football Schedule

Aug. 31 vs. LSU (Arlington, Texas)
Sept. 7 vs. SE Louisiana
Sept. 14 at Texas Tech
Sept. 28 vs. SMU
Oct. 5 at Oklahoma
Oct. 12 vs. Kansas
Oct. 19 at Oklahoma State
Oct. 26 vs. Texas
Nov. 2 vs. West Virginia
Nov. 9 at Iowa State
Nov. 16 at Kansas State
Nov. 30 vs. Baylor

The Horned Frogs will arguably have a tougher schedule this season as they start things off with a battle against LSU at Cowboys Stadium. If they can pull that game out, opponents in the Big 12 will know they have a real competitor on their hands.

Their conference schedule is extremely tough and road games at Oklahoma and OK State could give them two quick losses in October. Not to mention, they'll have to face Texas right after those two. Outside of that stretch, TCU has a pretty favorable schedule.

November could still be troublesome as they travel to Iowa State and Kansas State in back-to-back weeks. Luckily, they'll get a week off before they take on Baylor in the season finale. They had seven wins last year and should be able to get at least a couple more this season.
