Giant Killer Fresno State Looks to Knock Off Boise State

Boise State travels to Fresno State to take on the Bulldogs this Friday Night in a Game that will be seen on ESPN starting at 9pm est. The current betting line has Boise State as a road favorite of 7 points with a total of 54. While Fresno State has long been known as a “Giant Killer” under coach Pat Hill, they’ll have their work cut out for them if they are going to slay this beast. A year ago, Boise State blasted Fresno 61-10 although the Game was just 13-10 at the half!. We don’t expect that to happen Friday Night. While we think Boise will win this one, the pressing question is, will they cover?
Fresno State started the year with an easy 51-0 win over UC Davis. They were nearly perfect in that Game. Their second Game was a 34-31 overtime loss to Wisconsin. The Bulldogs had plenty of chances to win the Game, but in the end they werent able to overcome turning the ball over three times. They were also hindered by Wisconsin kicker Philip Welch whom hit FGs from 41 and 57 yards out. No, that is not a typo, he hit a 57 yarder. Fresno State QB Ryan Colburn did plenty of good throwing for 4 TDs, but also GAve up 3 INTs. RB Ryan Mathews was stellar, picking up 107 yards. He had a long run of 55 yards. WR Devon Wylie had a 70 yard catch en route to 114 total yards and a TD.
Fresno was absolutely crushed last year in the 2nd half. The defense will need to make huge steps forward after allowing the Broncos to Score61 points last year. This could happen as they are returning 9 members of last years team, iNCluding All-WAC members Ben Jacbos and Moses Harris. Fresno State has a good running attack and will be able to rely on several different RBs. It will be important to mix it up on the Boise St. defense by also putting the ball in the air.
Boise State looked good in their eventful week one 19-8 victory over the Oregon Ducks. The defense held Oregons potent offense to just 8 points, and 31 yards of rushing. RB D.J. Harper picked up 88 yards and 1 TD. The passing Game was very strong with QB Kellen Moore throwing for 197 yards and 1 TD. He threw for 4 TDs in the following weeks win over Miami. The Boise St. offense looks like a well oiled MAChine. Expect for them to Scoreearly and often against Fresno State.
Boise St. looks well on their way to their seventh WAC title in eight years. A few things will be key to them winning big in this Game. First off, the defense will have to be stingy like it has been in the first two weeks. Starting out fast and scoring points while shutting down Fresno States offense could demoralize their opponent. The passing Game has been strong, but the offensive line has to protect Moore and make holes for the potent Broncos running attack. The defense came up with 4 turnovers against Miami. If they do that to the Fresno State Bulldogs then the Game will quickly be over.
Boise State looks to have a clear shot at running the table from here on out. Keep in mind though, it’s the WAC. Not exactly a power house conference. But credit Boise. They knocked off Oregon already, so the team can play some ball. Expect Fresno to show up Friday Night and play TWO full halves as opposed to the one they played a year ago. Knowing Pat Hills reputation as a giant killer, you can be sure the Bulldogs will be plenty pumped as well. That may be enough to carry them through the first half but we think Boise oNCe again pulls away, this time in the 4th quarter, to grab the win and cover the -7 by a nose.
Fresno State is worth a look as a first half wager. again, a year ago this one was 13-10 at the half and that Game was played at Boise. No reason this one won’t be close at the half. Wouldn’t be shocked if Fresno has the lead at that point. So, twp plays for us here. Fresno State plus the points in the first half and then Boise State -7 for the Game. Enjoy!
