Tonight, one Game will decide the World Series. The College Baseball World Series that is, as LSU and Texas, tied 1-1, play at 7pm est for all the marbles. The Odds on the Game, as you might expect, favor LSU. LSU opened up as a -135 favorite and bettors quickly backed the Tigers moving the line to LSU -153. We’d expect that line to iNCrease even more throughout the day.
LSU coach/manager Paul Mainieri, opted to save his Ace, pitcher Anthony Ranaudo for Game 3, a move which could prove huge when all is said and done. Had he used Ranaudo yesterday, he would have been going on 3 days rest. When asked about his decision, Mainieri said “I remember my dad coaching the junior college world series in 1971 and being in the same situation we were tonight, Mainieri said. He brought his No. 1 guy back on three days rest, and the guy pitched a phenomenal Game and lost 2-1. And I saw how it demoralized his team. The next night, I think they got beat 10-2 in the championship Game”
Ranaudo, is a 6-foot-7 sophomore with a 2.87 ERA. He threw just 77 pitches in six innings in his last start and held Arkansas scoreless on Four hits. Texas will start right-hander Cole Green (5-3, 3.07 ERA), who like Ranaudo last pitched on Friday.
Winning a 3 Game series is something LSU knows how to do well this year. On seven occasions, the Tigers won the third Game of a Southeastern Conference series in order to take the best-of-three series. They have looked like the best team throughout, so perhaps the -150 odds on tonights Game are ACCuarate. However, from a betting standpoint, it’s tough to pass up a shot on the underdog. In a one Game, winner take all affair, you have to consider the dog. Texas proved they are capable yesterday with a 5-1 win, and look to ride that momentum to a National Championship.
