Time for Our annual Boise State rant. Boise State opens up on Saturday night against Georgia in what amounts to a BCS title elimination Game. For Boise State that is. The Georgia Bulldogs have an elimination Game just about every week playing the likes of South Carolina (the following week), Florida and Auburn. Meanwhile, Boise States biggest test the rest of the way figures to be a TCU team that’s down a notch.

It’s not that Boise isn’t talented. They are. To their credit, when given the chance to step up in class over the years they have risen to the challenge just about every time. The problem they way we see it is, that chance has come literally a handful of times over the last decade, whereas a team like Georgia has that test a handful of times EACH YEAR.

There couldn’t be a better argument for the need to have a playoff system in college football. Not fair, comes to mind. But, nothing we can do about it but voice Our opinion. So, on to the Game.

As mentioned, Boise has delivered when asked to step up in class over the years. Who could forget the win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in 2006. Or beating Oregon in 2008 and 2009. Last season they opened up against Virginia Tech and won an exciting 33-30 Game. But just about all of their Games when stepping up in class were close ones, unlike when they blow out teams like Utah State or San Jose. There have been losses as well.  In the last 5 years they have lost to Washington, Hawaii, TCU and Nevada.

In 2005 Boise State and Georgia hooked up. In that year, Georgia finished 10-3 while Boise State was 9-4. It was the opener for both teams. Final score? Georgia 48-13.

Georgia has their work cut out for them this year. They are in off an very disappointing and unACCeptable 6-7 season, their worst in years. Bad as it was, there was only one Game all year where they were outclassed and that was the Auburn Game. Mark Richt is 96-34 in 11 years at Georgia and that’s playing a tough SEC Schedule folks. Richt can coach, and Georgia recruits top notch talent year after year. They’ll be looking to kick off the 2011 campaign on the right foot.

We see no reason not to back Georgia here. We see this as a Game between two good, solid, well coached football teams. It’s a huge Game for both as a loss all but ends any national title aspirations. With Georgia, we’re getting +3.5 in a Game that figures to come down to the final minutes. There’s a good chance we won’t need any points. There’s also a chance the extra 1/2 point here gives us a win. The Game is on a neutral field, but let’s face it, the Georgia Dome is going to be filled with Bulldog fans. It may not be a home Game as far as the field goes, but it’s a home Game as far as the crowd goes.

There’s a chance we’ll use this Game as a Key Release. We’ll notify Our email list as well as twitter if we do.
