Florida State Football Preview Predictions and 2011 Schedule

Last season was a nice one for Florida State. After going 7-6 in 3 of the 4 previous years Jimbo Fisher stepped in and produced a 10 win season. It was a smooth transition at head coach as Fisher had already been named Bobby Bowden’s successor the previous year and was handling many of the responsibilities a head coach handles before officially taking over. If you look at last year’s daNCe card you’ll see a buNCh of wins, a few close closes and a blow out at the hands of Oklahoma.

Florida State averaged 31 points per Game on offense which was 33rd best in the nation and they GAve up 20 points per Game defensively which was good for 20th in the land. This season they return 8 starters on each side of the ball which includes 7 of their top 10 tacklers from a year ago on defense as well as a new QB that has already seen some action, going 4-2 as a starter and being named MVP of the GAtor Bowl in the 2009-2010 season and also played in last season’s Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

Looking at their Schedule for 2011 it looks as though you should be able to peNCil in 7 wins. Games they should win based on their talent. That leaves Games against Oklahoma, Clemson, Miami Florida, NC State and Florida to determine how this season shakes out. Those are winnable Games.

From a betting standpoint circle September 17th. That’s when the Seminoles host Oklahoma and get a crack at some major revenge. Last season the Seminoles played at Oklahoma in week 2 and were obliterated. Their worst loss of the year, at 47-17 train wreck. Florida State should be 2-0 heading into that one and the outcome will tell us all we need to know about the 2011 Florida State Seminoles. You can be sure spring practice and all the early season practices will be geared towards one team, the Oklahoma Sooners.

If Florida State gets by Oklahoma, the sky is the limit. This team has tons of talent, most of it recruited right at home in the state of Florida. They play Clemson and Florida on the road but every other Game against top quality opponents is at home. Anything less than a repeat of last years 10 wins would be a big disappointment. This team is a contender both in the ACC and Nationally.

The current odds on Florida State winning the ACC is +150 making them the favorites. They are listed at 12/1 to win the BCS Championship.
