Kansas Jayhawks Football Preview with Picks and Predictions and 2011 Schedule
It wouldn’t be a stretch to predict that the Kansas Jayhawks will be better in 2011 than they were in 2010. There’s a rebuilding process underway and Turner Gill is the man in charge. Gill did a fine job with basically no talent at Buffalo and obviously Kansas hopes he can do the same for them. But hey, let’s face the facts, when you’re near the bottom of all college football teams statistically, on both sides of the ball, it’s hard not to improve.
Kansas was 113th in the nation in total offense last year and averaged just 17 points per Game. Defensively they GAve up on average 34 points per Game, good for 103rd in scoring defense and they were -8 in turnover margin, good for 105th in the land. There’s nowhere to go but up and up they should go. They return 7 starters on the defense and 6 on the offense. They’ll have another year under their belts with the new coach and the new schemes so it will be hard to be as bad as they were last season.
But don’t expect miracles. As far as talent goes, Kansas is lacking and likely always will be when compared to other Big 12 programs. This team needs to overachieve in order to have any success. The GAps between Kansas and good teams are just too large. It’s not just the elite teams that mopped the floor with the Jayhawks. Baylor beat them 55-7 last year and they also lost to North Dakota State 6-3!
Turner Gill has his work cut out. We look for another 3 win season this year and that’s with them pulling an upset or two along the way as there are really no Games where you can peNCil in a win. In fact, we may peNCil in one win, the first Game of the year against McNeese State and to be honest, even that one is no guarantee.
