Oregon State vs. Wisconsin Betting Line with Prediction

9/10/11

Wisconsin hosts Oregon State Saturday at 12 noon est. in a Game that will be the 2nd for both teams. Wisconsin opened as a whopping 18 point favorite and the early money has flowed in on the Badgers moving the opener to -21 at 5 Dimes. If you’re looking for insight into the early line move, look no further than the week one results for both teams.

Wisconsin opened the year as advertised with a 51-17 romping over UNLV while Oregon State played in one of the big shockers of opening week, losing to CS Sacramento 29-28 in a Game in which they opened up as a 27 point favorite! But be very careful when Games set up like this. If that wasn’t the real Oregon State last week, you can be sure they show up this week while Wisconsin may have a false sense of security after rolling over UNLV and there’s always the chance they take Oregon State lightly after last week.

Speaking of taking teams lightly, no question that was part of the problem last week for Oregon State. The went into the Game limping, resting some injured players and obviously over confident. Before they knew it they were down 21-6 and although they were able to come all the way back, lost the Game in OT. This was a Game that saw Oregon out GAin CS Sac on the ground 266-71 and rush for over 6 yards per carry.

Oregon State isn’t the first team to fall to a lower division school. Virginia Tech lost to James Madison last year only to follow that Game up by blowing out East Carolina the next week and going 11-3 on the year. Kansas lost to North Dakota State and followed that up with a win over Georgia Tech and that was a 3 win Kansas Team. Bottom line here, expect a huge effort from the Beavers this week.

Oregon State was 5-7 last year after 4 straight years of 8, 9 and 10 win seasons. They have had talented teams and return most of the offense from last year. To put it further into perspective, both of these teams played Arizona State at home last year with The Beavers winning 31-28 and the Badgers winning 20-19. It’s not much of a stretch to expect to see this Game much closer than predicted.

There’s lots to learn about both squads here. Oregon State figures to see some injured players return, who were obviously left out because they thought they had a cup cake Game last week. That can only help here. Don’t be surprised if Oregon State gets a little taste of what it’s like to be on the other side of a “shocking” outcome.

Either way, the number is too big here. We expect to see a much different Oregon State team Saturday – Oregon State +21
