2013 Arkansas Razorbacks

College Football Preview

Schedule and Odds

Well, there’s only one way to go for this team and that’s up. In Tyler Wilson’s senior season, the Razorbacks were a lost team without Bobby Petrino and it showed immediately. Arkansas was supposed to challenge Alabama for the SEC, but the Crimson Tide ran away with a 52-0 win against them… in Fayetteville. They have a new coach in town in Bret Bielema which should boost hopes, but they still have a long way to go. Arkansas is only returning three starters from last year’s offense which ended up being their only strong suit last season. They return eight defenders which is good, but they allowed over 30 points per Game in 2012.

As we write this Arkansas football preview in the spring, 5 Dimes Sportsbok doesn’t list odds for Arkansas to win the BC Title. Thta in nd of itself should tell you that their chances are slim to none.

Word is coming out that Brandon Allen will be the Razorbacks starting QB entering the season. Allen played in five Games last year and didn’t do much. Their top two running backs are gone from the SEC’s worst rushing attack which doesn’t help. Bielema likes to run the ball (as seen at Wisconsin), so someone is going to have to step up and carry the workload. LUckily for Allen, most of the returnees on this offense are receivers, so that will help somewhat for the offense.

For the defense, their front seven will need some work. OUtside of their defensive ends, Arkansas is pretty scant and don’t have much coming off their bench. While most of their guys are returning in the secondary, they didn’t exactly do much last year.

2013 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Schedule

Aug. 31 vs. Louisiana-LAfayette
Sept. 7 vs. Samford
Sept. 14 vs. Southern Miss
Sept. 21 at Rutgers
Sept. 28 vs. Texas A&M
Oct. 5 at Florida
Oct. 10 vs. South Carolina
Oct. 19 at Alabama
Nov. 1 vs. Auburn
Nov. 9 at Ole Miss
Nov. 23 vs. Mississippi State
Nov. 30 at LSU

Their 2013 season starts with another Game against a Louisiana-based school. LA-Monroe gave the Razorbacks their first lost last year, even though they were 30-point underdogs. LA-LAfayette should be a win, but much like LA-Monroe, the Ragin’ Cajuns can’t be ignored. From there, they get two freebies and those could be their last wins for a while.

After Southern Miss, Arkansas will have a deadly stretch in five straight Games. Their easiest Game in that stretch is a road Game at Rutgers. The next week, SEC Games start with Texas A&M, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama. Welcome to the conference, Bielema.

Their next three Games will be their best chance of getting any wins in Conference play this year. A home Game with Auburn should be a win and both Mississippi schools are beatable if the Razorbacks are playing somewhat decent at that point. They get a road Game at LSU to finish out the season which probably won’t go well.

The Razorbacks will need to figure things out with their offense because their defense won’t be stopping many of the top teams. Getting two wins in SEC play this year is unfortunately, what’s expected of them.
