USC hosts Boston College Saturday and is currently a two touchdown, -14 point favorite at 5 Dimes Sportsbook, down from an opener of -16. The total here is 42. BC comes in 2-0 with wins over Villanova and Wake Forest while USC comes in at 1-1 with an opening week win over Hawaii and a 10-7 setback last week against Washington State.
This is a surprising Game when considering the betting trends offered by 5dimes.com. Usually, USC would be the public choice. The public loves USC. But the public is also heavily iNFLuenced by last weeks results and a lackluster 10-7 loss has the public feeling that -14 is just too big of a number for USC to cover. 74% of the action on this Game has come in on the BC side at +14. Tough call here. This is a 7-6 USC team a year ago returning 15 starters against a 2-10 BC team a year ago returning 18 starters. We can’t be impressed with BC wins over Wake Forest and Villanova and USC should have the better talent by a mile.
But we have seen worse 2-10 teams than BC. Last season they at least were able to put some points on the board against the likes of Miami and Clemson and other than getting blown off the field by Florida State, they really didn’t embarrass themselves against some of the better teams they played. Meanwhile, USC is on a 3-13 spread run their last 15 Games not to mention a 2-6 run straight up their last 8. While the Eagles seem enthused with new head coach Steve Addazio, USC could be getting tired of LAne Kiffin who simply hasn’t delivered.
Nothing strong here, but we’re going to side with the public on this one and take two touchdowns with BC. Unless the USC offense somehow finds some spark this week, no reason to think BC can’t make a Game of this one. Boston College +14
