Pick – Trends

11/2/13

It wasn’t so long ago that this Game held importance. It was the beginning of October, and both of these teams were undefeated in SEC play with 3-0 records. And then came the injuries. since then, both have lost two straight Games in the conference. Usually, that would be a death sentence in the SEC, but now that Missouri lost in overtime last weekend, there is still a slight chance that either one of these teams could win the SEC East with some luck. The Bulldogs are getting some support and are -2.5 point favorites.

Florida’s losses look a little better than Georgia’s, as all three of theirs have come on the road against viable opponents. Granted, they didn’t look good in any of them, scoring just 23 points total in the last two Games. Georgia lost at home to Missouri and more recently, gave up 17 points to Vanderbilt in the Fourth quarter to lose.

The Bulldogs have won the last two meetings between these teams. The only constant in this Game will be Georgia QB Aaron Murray, which is why they are getting bettors support. Florida will be led by Tyler Murphy at QB, who is one of the main reasons this offense hasn’t done anything lately. In the past two Games, Murphy has thrown for just 207 yards and zero touchdowns. The road has been unkind to him.

The Gators hope that the bye week and a susceptible Georgia defense will help Murphy get back to respectable numbers. He has a trio of receivers to help, led by Solomon Patton (426 yards, Four TDs), although that hasn’t mattered lately. They’ll use the ground Game as much as possible split between MACk Brown and freshman Kelvin Taylor.

It helps that Murphy got the bye week, but the Bulldogs got a week off as well and will be looking to turn around a putrid defensive campaign, giving up 33 points per Game.

Not only is Aaron Murray at the helm for Georgia, but word on the street is that stud running back Todd Gurley will be healthy and ready to go for this Game. Gurley has not played since September in the win over LSU. He is a complete difference maker and will be needed against this Florida defense. Murray had his first poor Game of the year last time out against Vandy, only able to throw for 114 yards and zero TDs. Even with a beat up receiving core, he’s continued to will the offense to points, which only shows how good he can be. If he can recover from his last outing and put up solid numbers against the Gators pass defense, it’ll definitely catch some more NFL eyes.0

The Bulldogs are 0-4-1 ATS in their last five Games overall and are only 1-6 ATS in their last seven Games following a bye week. The Gators are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Games following a bye week, but only 1-8 ATS in their last nine Games following a straight up loss. In this series, the favorite has covered in Four of the last five Games.
