The Ragin’ Cajuns finished with nine wins last year, including a nice bowl win over East Carolina. Getting to that mark will be possible once again with plenty of skill returning, but a slip-up to a mediocre team won’t be as kind (like when they lost to North Texas in 2012). The offense led the way last year and there’s no reason they can’t this season.
Louisiana-LAfayette is losing their top two receivers and two of their best linemen, so the work is cut out for them. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the athletic quarterback Terrance Broadway is just as successful as he was last year. Broadway completed 65 percent of his passes, ran for 769 yards and had 26 total TDs in 2012. Receivers Jamal Robinson and Darryl Surgent got plenty of time and experience last year. Running back Alonzo Harris is another important piece that can help keep the offense rolling. And it’s not like the line will take a complete dive as they only lost two starters. The other three are good candidates to make all-Conference honors.
The Cajuns hired James Willis on to be the new defensive coordinator, who will bring in a new 4-3 scheme. Even with only five total starters returning on defense, the studs are there to keep the unit strong. Leading tackler Justin Anderson is back along with end Christian Ringo who continually gets into opposing team’s backfields. The secondary needs the most work, but at least Rodney Gillis is back in his sixth-year of eligibility after dealing with a couple knee injuries.

After facing the likes of Oklahoma State and Florida a year ago, LA-LAfayette start the 2013 campaign with road Games at Arkansas and Kansas State. Considering how they played last year, there’s no reason the Cajuns can’t stay close in those two Games.
The toughest Sun Belt stretch for them this year will come in mid-October when they have to travel in back-to-back weeks against Western Kentucky and Arkansas State. Neither one of those Games will come easy, but at least you can expect plenty of points.
From there, it’s almost smooth sailing until they face LA-Monroe, who they surprisingly beat by 16 points a year ago. The Cajuns should be able to get at least seven wins, but if the defense can hold things down, another nine-win season wouldn’t be out of reach, especially with Broadway leading the offense.
