Georgia Tech

vs.

Pitt

College Football Pick

10/8/16

By Jason Green

Georgia Tech got off to a good start to the season winning their first three Games, but they have lost 2 in a row and each loss came by at least 14 points. Their last 2 Games have come against ranked teams, but both Games were also at home. The Yellow Jackets have already played 5 Games and this will be their first road one of the season.

It has been tough to get a read on Pittsburgh this season, as in their 3 wins only one came against a decent team in Penn State. In their 2 losses they were close and both on the road facing the solid teams of Oklahoma State and North Carolina.

Hard to believe, but Pitt has the better rushing offense ranking 16th in the nation in rushing yards per Game while Tech ranks 28th.

Tech lost their last Game failing at home to Miami 35-21 where they did not cover as a 7.5-point underdog. Pitt got back in the W column beating Marshall 43-27 in their last Game, but they did not cover at home giving 16.5-points.

Last season Pittsburgh beat Georgia Tech 31-28.

Tech is a run first team that is led by QB Justin Thomas, who has only passed for 458 yards, and he is also the team’s 3rd leading rusher. Dedrick Mills is the team’s leading rusher and he and Clinton Lynch have combined for 490 rushing yards this season while Thomas has chimed in with 151.

It is key that Thomas holds onto the rock in this Game, which he could do in the loss to Miami and it cost the Jackets. In the Game he not only lost 2 fumbles, but both were returned for TD’s.

Pitt QB Nathan Peterman has passed for 923 yards with 8 TD and 2 INT and he has not been picked off in the last 2 Games. He has a good WR corps, but where the Panthers are strong is the backfield duo of James Conner and Quadree Henderson, who have both rushed for over 300 yards on the season.

Tech has a more balanced defense that is stronger against the run and Pitt has one of the nation’s best run defense, but one of the worst pass defenses and that makes for a good match up with the Jackets not airing it out much.

Georgia Tech is 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 Games overall, 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 road Games, and they have an Under record of 6-2-1 in their last 9 Games.

Pitt is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Games overall, 5-16 ATS in their last 21 home Games, an they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 Games.

Pitt giving up buckets of points as their yards per point defensive number of 13.1 shows (95th in the land). Georgia Tech weighs in with a number of 18.5 which is good for 23rd in the nation. Tech literally handed the Game to Miami last week and we’d expect a much better performance against Pitt while they gain some revenge for last years 3 point defeat. Georgia Tech +6.5
