College Football Pick

10/29/16

By Jason Green

Tulsa is coming off a win where they put up 50 points and their only 2 losses this season have come against ranked teams. They have a legit chance to win the AAC West title, as they are tied with Memphis at 2-1 in Conference play while at 4-0 is Navy, who the Golden Hurricane face and the Tigers already lost to. Tulsa has a balanced offense that ranks 19th in the nation averaging 39.4 ppg.

Memphis is coming off a loss to Navy, which really hurt their chances to play in the Conference title Game. Like the Golden Hurricane the Tigers only losses this season have come against ranked teams. They have a solid passing attack and they rank in the top 40 in the nation in points per Game and opponents’ points per Game.

Tulsa laid a 50-27 beat down on Tulane in their last Game and they easily covered as a 10.5-point home favorite. Memphis fell to Navy 42-28 in their last Game failing to cover as a 1-point road underdog.

Tulsa has not only covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 Games against Memphis, but they are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road Games against them.

The Golden Hurricane blew up on offense in their win over Tulane with 566 total yards. QB Dane Evans passed for 236 yards with 3 TD and 0 INT and RB James Flanders had a huge Game rushing for 190 yards with 2 TD. He has rushed for over 100 yards in 3 of his last 4 Games. Memphis has to be concerned with him since they only rank 83rd in the nation defending the run and they gave up a whopping 447 rushing yards in their loss to Navy.

Memphis QB Riley Ferguson had a good Game against Navy passing for 333 yards with 2 TD, but did not get much help with the Tigers only rushing for 98 yards in the Game. While Memphis does have 3 players with at least 229 rushing yards, led by Doroland Dorceus (468 yards 5 TD) much of their yards have come on big plays and overall they have not really gotten it done in the backfield.

Tulsa ranks 38th in the nation defending the pass and only 91st defending the run.

Tulane is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road Games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Games following a ATS win, and in their last 6 road Games the posted total has gone Over 5 times.

Memphis is 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Games overall, and in their last 5 Games the posted total has gone Over 4 times.
