New Orleans Bowl

Florida Atlantic vs Memphis

12/21/07

Truthfully folks, these are the kinds of Bowl Games we can certainly do without. Rather than bore the country with these space fillers, with two teams that give up more points than they get, why not utilize December 20th thru the 29th or so for some College football PLAYOFF Games??? Now that would really add some excitement to this time of year. Instead, we get these types of Games between mediocre football teams. Does anyone outside of Florida or Memphis really care who wins here? For that matter, does anyone in Memphis or Florida really care who wins?

since no one cares who wins, we’re going to cop out here and take a look at the total instead of the side. But we will say this about the side. In a Game where offense figures to rule the day, and where both teams should have no trouble finding the end zone, you have to take a close look at the dog. In this case, it’s a small dog, but you may be able to get +3 and we feel if we had to make a play, we’d lean to the dog here, which is Memphis.

But for Our play we look to the total, and well, the obvious. One of the attractions of putting together a Game like this, is the fireworks that figure to be produced offensively. The football watching public loves a shoot out where two teams are marching down the field scoring points by the bundle. The Games tend to have frequent lead changes and often dramatic finishes, which at least justifies playing the Game in the first place. At least it has potential to be exciting.

The last three Florida Atlantic Games and 4 of the last 6 Games have seen 70+ points scored to go along with their season average of about 64 points per Game. Just about every Game they played this year saw at least 60 points scored.

Memphis isn’t far behind. 2 of their last 4 Games saw 96+ points scored with a few other 60 and 70 point Games thrown in along the way to go along with their season average of about 60 points per Game.

This isn’t a strong play by any means. But in a Game where we have no opinion on the side, we’ll make a small play here on the over and hope we see a wild shoot out with 70+ points scored which would be a fitting end to both of these squads seasons.
