We would love to give you a list of horses and say that one of these horses WILL win the Kentucky Derby, but after watching Mine That Bird fire up the rail at odds of 50-1 last year we just can�t do that. However we can say with NEAR certainty that one of the below horses will win. At the bottom of this article we have listed the the current odds to win the Kentucky Derby for all of the contenders courtesy of 5dimes.com the largest race and sportsbook in the world.
Eskendereya – This horse will undoubtedly be the favorite. He is this year�s big bad wolf. Typically there are several very good horses in a year, but this colt TOWERS over everyone else. If he runs his race there is little to no chance he gets beat. However, we must remember that this is the Kentucky Derby. Anything can happen and with 20 horses it will be a cavalry charge to the first turn. He, like any horse in the race, could lose all chance with a bad start.
The Fountain of Youth Stakes was something of a coming out party for this Todd Pletcher trainee. He romped home against a good field to win by 8 � lengths. He earned a 106 BSF for that effort. His next race when he took the Wood Memorial was even better. Jockey John Velazquez never had to cock the whip as he won by 9 lengths over a strong field. If he fires his best shot in the Kentucky Derby he will win with ease.
Super Saver – This guy is trained by Todd Pletcher. His pedigree is among the best of any three-year-old that we have seen this year. I love the way he was able to rate off the pace in the Arkansas Derby where he finished a close second. It was important know that he isn�t a �need the lead� type, because going wire to wire in the Kentucky Derby is very tough to do. The Kentucky Derby will be his third race after a layoff which is typically a peak effort. We know he is a classy horse because he won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes as a two-year-old. He should be a nice price. He is a must use in exotic wagers.
Lookin at LUcky – If not for two bad trips this son of Smart Strike would be undefeated. His only two defeats came when he narrowly lost the Breeders Cup Juvenile after a poor trip and the Arkansas Derby where he was slammed into the rail by an opposing horse. The colt finished second and third, respectively in those races. I love the way he always tries hard. His best Beyer Speed Figure came at Oaklawn Park where he won the Rebel Stakes. That is important because it is his only race over conventional dirt. Trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Garrett Gomez teamed up to finish second last year with Pioneerof the Nile. I would call him the �Rocky Balboa� of this year�s Kentucky Derby.
Sidney�s Candy – Jockey Joe Talamo finds himself on another live horse after he lost a chance to ride in the Kentucky Derby last year when Wood Memorial winner I Want Revenge was scratched with an injury on the day of the race. This horse is arguably as good or better. He was last seen winning the Santa Anita Derby by a whopping six lengths in wire to wire fashion. Before that he took the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes. It will be interesting to see how he responds if he is challenged for the lead. It�s hard to say how good he really is. Talamo has never hit the bottom of him. Trainer John Sadler is top notch so this one is in good hands.
