Cards – Reds Plus an Under Play

6/24/08

Yesterday was a small card with nothing much to offer in the way of Games to take a closer look at, though we did manage to find a play to release as a Premium Play at the Free Sports Monitor (Oddswiz) on the Royals over the Rockies. Today is just the opposite. A big card with some potential. So let’s take a look at a few of today’s MLB matchups and see if we can pick some winners. We have a couple of dogs to look at plus a totals play.

Cardinals +140 over Tigers – The Cards come limping into Detroit to face the Tigers who have swept their last two home series. How banged up are the Cardinals? They are so banged up that they went in to Boston over the weekend and almost swept the Bosox who are currently 29-10 at home! This Game is a case of the price being out of whack. Sure, the Tigers should be favored, and the percentages favor a  Tiger win. But not at a price of -150 or more. No great edge for the Tigers on the mound with Kenny Rogers taking on Looper. Rogers did beat the Cards in the World Series (illegally?) but the Cards had no trouble the last few times they faced him in the regular season. Likewise, the Tigers have played well against Looper. Perhaps the over 9 is worth a peek here as well. The price is right on the side. Cards.

Reds +134 over Blue Jays – If you’ve been following Our baseball write ups, you have a good idea of what we look for. So it should come as no surprise that we are on the Reds here. Betting favoritisms day in and day out in baseball is poison. Betting favorites that are 2-8 their last 10, struggling offensively and just playing bad ball in general, are a death sentence. The Reds are no bargain, we realize. But throw these two teams against each other in their current forms, and let them play 1000 Games under these exact circumstances and you’re looking at each team winning 500 Games. There’s no decisive edge either way here. Which makes this a nice long term winner getting +134. At that price, we only have to win about 42% of the Games just to break even.

Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays UNDER 8.5. (Tuesday, June 24, 7:07 pm EST). Toronto scored eight runs Sunday against Pittsburgh. It was the most runs the Blue Jays have scored in 15 Games, while their 11 hits and eight walks were their highest total in 17 Games. The Blue Jays have scored just 308 runs this season, the second lowest total in the American League. Cincinnati has also struggled in the offensive department. The Reds are hitting just .208 and have scored just 32 runs in their last 12 Games. The UNDER is 9-0 in Cincinnati’s last nine interleague Games a right-handed starter. Even though the ERA’s of today starters, A.J. Burnett and Bronson Arroyo are in the mid fives mark my words both of these woeful offenses will make the pitchers look like Cy Young. Go low tonight in Toronto.
