2008 MLB PLAYOFFS

By 5dimes.com

And then there were Four. The 2008 championship series matchups in MLB are set with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox battling for the American League Pennant and the L.A. Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies for the National League.

It would be nice to see the Rays and Phillies make the World Series but seeing Manny Ramirez and his new team (L.A. Dodgers) play his old team (Boston Red Sox) would be divine.

Speaking of “Man Ram” and his new team, the Dodgers travel to Philly to begin the NLCS tonight; 5dimes.com has the Dodgers listed at -105 and the Phillies at -115 in its League Championship Series Prices wager.

L.A. and Philly couldn’t be more even this year as the two are 4-4 against each other in 2008, although the Dodgers have dropped Four straight against the Phillies.

The Under has cashed in Four of the last five meetings between the two.

Game 1 will see L.A. sending Derek Lowe to the mound while Philly will send Cole Hamels.

The Dodgers are 2-1 when Lowe takes the mound in the “City of Brotherly Love” and have an Over/Under record of 2-1-0 in that same time.

Hamels has only faced the Dodgers once at home but it resulted in a 9-2 win for the Phillies; the Game also went Over.

Overall in 2008, the Phillies have gone 11-7 at home when Hamels starts.

The Dodgers are listed at +121 on the Money line and the Phillies at -131 for the opener. The Phillies are receiving 61% of the wagering volume on this first Game and a slight majority of the action is going Phillies way to win the series, as 54% of players at 5dimes.com are betting on Philly to win the NL Pennant.

The ALCS begins on Friday with two beasts from the AL East; the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox.

League Championship Series prices have the BoSox listed at –130, while the Rays are +110.

In 18 meetings in 2008, the Rays hold a 10-8 advantage in the season series but down the stretch were more profitable, going 7-2 in the last nine meetings.

In nine meetings in St. Petersburg, Florida this season, the Rays once again have the edge cashing in on eight opportunities (8-1).

Friday’s Game 1 sees a duel between the BoSox’s Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Rays’ James Shields and the Sox are -101 and the Rays at -109.

While the edge may seemingly go to “Dice-K” consider this, Matsuzaka has gone 3-5 lifetime against Tampa Bay with an Over/Under record of 5-3-0, including Four consecutive Overs.

The defending champion Boston Red Sox are seeing an overwhelming 76% majority of the betting volume at 5dimes.com to win the ALCS series.

While many eyes will be on baseball, there is college football tonight as well.

In an all-ACC battle, the Clemson Tigers battle the No. 21 Wake Forest Demon Deacons with oddsmakers favoring Wake Forest by 2.5-points and -135 on the Money line; the Total is set at 44.

since 1996, Wake Forest has a slight edge ATS with a record of 6-5-1 but Clemson holds the edge in Money line betting going a profitable 9-3 SU; the last six Games have gone Over at a rate of 5-1-0.

The majority of the early action, 68%, is going the way of Wake Forest.

With the NLCS beginning and the ACC college football Game it should be a nice night to curl up on the couch in front of the tube.

Enjoy yourself.
