2013 Washington Redskins

NFL Preview

Betting Predictions

The Washington Redskins made a fraNChise-changing decision before last season when they completed a pre-draft blockbuster trade with the St. Louis Rams that sent them the No. 2 overall pick for three first-rounders and one second-rounder. This move allowed the Redskins to land Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, who lived up to all the hype and then some in capturing 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Washington got off to a rough 3-6 start (4-5 against the spread) but rebounded to go a perfect 7-0 straight-up and ATS down the stretch, which includedwinning a key Week 17 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys that decided the NFC East. When all was said and done, RG3 led the Redskins to a 10-6 record and their first division title since 1999. However, they would go on to lose their opening playoff Game to the Seahawks 24-14, with RG3 tearing his ACL late in the Game. Despite suffering that serious injury, RG3 underwent successful knee surgery and appears to be ahead of Schedule in his rehab.

Washington’s young fraNChise QB still hopes to be ready for Week 1 of the 2013 season, and his rookie campaign included3,200 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and only five interceptions to go along with 815 rushing yards and seven more scores on the ground. Fellow rookie counterpart Alfred Morris, a no-name running back drafted in the sixth round out of Florida Atlantic, blossomed into a star as well last year with 1,613 rushing yards and 13 TDs. In his first season with the Redskins, wide receiver Pierre GArcon recorded 44 receptions for 633 yards and Four TDs despite only playing in 10 Games due to injuries. Veteran WR Santana Moss also had a productive season as he hauled in 41 receptions for 573 yards and eight TDs. Washington’s offense ranked first in the league in rushing yards, averaging 169.3 yards per Game and placed Fourth in scoring with 27.2 points per contest.  Defense was another story though, as the Redskins ranked 30th in passing yards allowed (281.9 ypg) and 28th in total yards (377.7 ypg).

Washington has had a relatively quiet offseason with the biggest news revolving around the speedy recovery of RG3. The team’s biggest offseason loss was safety Madieu Williams, but linebacker Brian Orakpo will return to the field after tearing his left pectoral in Week 2 of last season and missing the rest of the year. The Redskins are also hoping to get immediate production out of Four rookies from this year’s NFL draft class, led by cornerback David Amerson, safeties Phillip Thomas and Bacarri Rambo and tight end Jordan Reed.

The oddsmakers at 5Dimes have Washington listed at O/U 8 wins for this season. This number appears a bit low considering the rapid recovery of RG3, who could be ready to start the regular-season opener. If he enjoys a successful return as expected, the Redskins could very well win 10+ Games and make the playoffs again.
