Week 7

NFL Pick

10/23/16

Washington heads to Detroit in Week 7 for a Game that has been listed as a pick ’em and has an over/under of 49.5. The Redskins open this week at 4-2, trailing only first-place Dallas by one Game in the NFC East. The Lions are in third place, trailing the Packers by half a Game and the Vikings by two-and-a-half Games. Both teams come into this Game hot; Washington has won Four straight after opening 0-2 and Detroit has won two Games in a row after losing three straight to open the year 1-3.

Kirk Cousins is throwing for over 280 yards per Game and has thrown nine touchdowns versus six interceptions. In Washington’s first two Games — both losses — Cousins threw just one touchdown and three interceptions. since, in their Four wins, Cousins has protected the ball much better, throwing eight touchdowns and three interceptions.

DeSean Jackson, Jordan Reed, Pierre GArcon and Jamison Crowder offer a mixture of experieNCe and talented youth at receiving positions to support Cousins as he guides the team. There may not be one go-to target, but they are all averaging more than 45 yards per Game on the season.

Matt Jones, in his second season out of Florida, is having a nice season at running back. He has gone for 433 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry. In his rookie season — 2015 — Jones ran for 490 yards and three touchdowns on 3.4 yards per carry. Certainly good improvement from him in his second year.

Detroit ranks 25th in overall in yards allowed per Game, 23rd in passing yards allowed per Game and 21st in rushing yards allowed per Game. The Lions are allowing 25.5 points per Game, while the Redskins are scoring 23.7 points per Game.

Matthew Stafford is off to a phenomenal start this season. He has thrown for 1,648 yards, 14 touchdowns and Four interceptions while completing nearly 70% of his passes. It really has been remarkable to see what Stafford has done since last year. A quarterback who has displayed, almost to no end, unreliability is now showing a lot of success the last year and a half.

There has been no running Game for Detroit, but the combination of Stafford along with Marvin Jones, Golden Tate, Anquan Boldin and Eric Ebron has provided enough offense so far. Those Four have combined for nine touchdown receptions. Jones is 7th in the NFL in receiving yards, but his production has dropped in recent weeks after an explosive beginning to the season.
