Saints vs. Jaguars Pick with Analysis
Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) plays host to the New Orleans Saints (2-1) in this inter-conference matchup. New Orleans had an exciting win last week over Houston as they overcame two fourth quarter deficits. Jacksonville is still struggling as they lost a close game to Carolina in Blaine Gabbert’s starting debut. Jacksonville’s Jack Del Rio in my view, is very much on the hot seat and may be the first coaching casualty of the new NFL season. With the late release of David Garrard, the offense has struggled to score points this season. Teams will soon stack the box on Maurice Jones-Drew and force Blain Gabbert to make decisions throwing the ball. The defense has played well this year with the exception of the Jets loss. The key factor for Jacksonville this week is to get out to a fast start and get the home crowd involved, but this team has not started fast all year.
New Orleans brings an explosive offense to Jacksonville this week. This team lost Reggie Bush but added Darron Sproles and has not missed a beat. The defense had big stops early in the red zone last week holding Houston to several field goals. The key for New Orleans will be to run the ball with Mark Ingram and limit turnovers that would allow Jacksonville to stay in the game.
New Orleans is a hot team right now as their only loss came from the Green Bay Packers on opening night. Jacksonville is a team that has a rugged defense and anemic offense that doesn’t put enough points on the board to win games. That does not bode well for them as they will need to score at least 28 to stay in this game. The trend I will lean on this game is that the Saints are 3-1 against the spread the last four vs. the Jaguars. Look for this trend to continue as New Orleans prevails 34-13. Take New Orleans to cover 7.5 points.
