If you’re a Louisiana Tech fan, this season will be somewhat of a blow after last year’s nine wins and mid-season Top 25 ranking. The problem is that they lost a ton of players and their head coach. New coach Skip Holtz comes in with only six returning starters and has a lot of work to do with this team. Also, you can’t forget that the Bulldogs had one of the worst defenses in the country last year even with nine wins.
With almost the entire offense gone, everything will come down to the 2012 Freshman All-American running back, Kenneth Dixon. He’s basically one of two starters returning on this side of the ball. Dixon was great last year with 1,194 yards and 27 TDs, but his numbers will surely drop with an entirely new passing Game. Former Texas Tech QB SCotty Young is in place to lead the team, but he hasn’t taken a snap since high school. All top receivers are gone and only one lineman returns so Young has his work cut out for him. It’s a wonder how Dixon will deal with all of the attention.
Kim Dameron knew he had a tall task coming in as the new defensive coordinator for this team. Tackle Justin Ellis is the best of the bunch as he leads a line that includes Four seniors. The problem is that the rest of the team is very raw. The Bulldogs were terrible against the pass last year and will likely be again this year with a lot of inexperience in the secondary.

To add to the difficulties, LA Tech is entering a new Conference in the C-USA. While it isn’t stocked with talent, it’s always hard making transitions. LUckily, their first Conference test will be a home Game against one of the bottom-level teams. OUtside of NC State, Tech’s out-of-Conference Schedule isn’t all that bad either with Games against LAmar, Army and Kansas.
It’s hard to predict where this team will finish with so many new pieces around them. They’ll need to capitalize on home Games like the already mentioned Tulane one and also North Texas and Southern Miss. Road Games at Florida Int. and UTSA can also be won if the offense can get something going.
Another bowl Game is a stretch, but if Young and Dixon can at least move the chains for the Bulldogs, there is some hope. Because of their Schedule, six wins is a possibility, but would be a major stretch. Look for around Four or five wins for this team.
