The season keeps getting worse for Florida State and the pain may not end any time soon outside of the Game against Delaware State later in the year. Considered a possible playoff team heading into the season, the Seminoles travel to Boston College, opening as just -3 point road favorites at 5Dimes Sportsbook.
This matchup was a blood bath a year ago with Florida State winning 45-7, but those days are long gone. Boston College comes into this Game with some hope having beaten both Louisville and Virginia on the road in the last two weeks. since falling to 1-3 to open the season, the Eagles have looked like a real and legitimate team in the ACC.
Things are a bit different for FSU as nothing is going right. James Blackman has been a clear downgrade at quarterback, while the defense hasn’t been good enough to win Games by itself. With how BC has looked in recent Games, this one is a lot harder than Jimbo Fisher wanted it to be.
ACCording to the numbers, Boston College doesn’t have a good defense, but holding Virginia Tech to 23 points and Virginia to 10 in recent Games is more than most defenses can do. This will be yet another Game that Florida State uses the running back duo of Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick early and often. The two have been solid, both averaging more than five yards per carry, but that hasn’t been enough against certain teams. Blackman has plenty of issues as an inexperienced quarterback and has tossed two interceptions in each of the last two Games.
The other side will be just as interesting with how the BC offense has looked in recent Games, dropping 40-plus points against both Louisville and Virginia. The success has come in different ways with AJ Dillon rushing for 272 yards and Four touchdowns against Louisville and then quarterback Anthony Brown throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns against Virginia. Something has clicked with this offense in recent Games that didn’t show up in the first month of the season. As long as they can keep that going, the Eagles will be competitive in this Game and have a real shot at winning.
There’s almost a guarantee that Florida State doesn’t run away with this Game because in its only two wins, the ‘Noles barely escaped past Wake Forest and Duke. In the end, their talent level stood out and that’s why people will bet FSU in this Game. The ‘Noles have a clear talent edge, but the reasons are more clear on why to bet Boston College. The Eagles have looked great in their last two Games and have an offense that can outScorewhatever FSU does, similar to last week when Louisville beat FSU.
The Seminoles are 0-4-2 ATS in their last six Games overall while the Eagles have covered in their last five Games. Throw in a Friday Game under the lights for Boston College and the reasons to back the home team outweigh those for the Seminoles.
