College Football Weekly Look Ahead
Week 5 - 2006
Last weekend the number one Ohio State Buckeyes shook off its slowed start to
cruise past Penn State in the fourth quarter. The game of the day came in the
nightcap when Notre Dame shocked all of East Lansing as they outscored Michigan
State 19-0 in the final frame and beat the Spartans in thrilling style. USC,
Auburn, West Virginia and Michigan all continued their undefeated seasons while
Rutgers found its way into the top 25 as they improved 4-0.
Here is a brief outlook on the best match-ups for this upcoming Saturday:
Boise State at Utah (-4)
Two of the best mid-majors schools meet to most likely knock the other out from
realistic BCS chances. Boise is undefeated and has the more complete offense.
Its rushing attack and quarterback Jared Zabransky should be too much for a Utah
team that struggled with a similar style offense in UCLA.
Prediction: Boise State 28, Utah 24
No. 12 Oregon (-1.5) at Arizona State
The Ducks continue its perfect mark as they head into Tempe to play Arizona
State. Oregon’s offense is tough to stop and after seeing ASU’s defense get
shredded by Cal, expect Dennis Dixon and the Ducks to do the same. Oregon is
likely to stay undefeated when they meet up with USC later in the year.
Prediction: Oregon 40, Arizona State 28
Alabama at No. 5 Florida (-13)
Revenge will be on the mind when the Gators host the Tide. Last year Florida was
routed by ‘Bama, but this year the tide is reversed (no pun intended). Chris
Leak and Urban Meyer’s offense is too strong even for a stingy Alabama defense.
Florida will continue to rise in the conference standings in hope for the SEC
crown.
Prediction: Florida 24, Alabama 13
No. 1 Ohio State (-7) at No. 13 Iowa
The Buckeyes get its first real threat in conference play when they go on the
road to Hawkeye land. Troy Smith struggled against the Penn State defense, but
should rebound nicely. This game will be close but the Buckeyes have too much
talent on offense to get outscored by an Iowa team that seems to just score
enough.
Prediction: Ohio State 21, Iowa 18
