Nebraska Cornhuskers at Missouri Tigers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers make the short trip to Columbia, MO to take on the 17th ranked Missouri Tigers in this Big 12 revenge Game. The Tigers are a lofty 21-4 on the season, and alone in 3rd place in the Big 12 Conference at 8-2, right behind 10-0 Oklahoma and 8-1 Kansas. The 15-7 Cornhuskers are un-ranked, and currently sitting in the middle of the pack at 5-4 in the Conference standings.

Nebraska opened up Conference play this year on a good note, beating these same Missouri Tigers by a score of 56-51 back on January 10th up in Lincoln. In that Game, the Cornhuskers opened up a 32-18 1st half lead, and then held on in the 2nd half for the 5 pt home win. They held the Tigers to just 31.8% shooting in the 1st half of play, but Missouri battled back to tie the Scoreat 51-51 with just over a minute to play, before Nebraska sealed it by scoring the Game’s final 5 pts. Nebraska followed that Game up by losing 4 out of their next 5, but have rebounded to win their last 3 Games in a row, including road Games at Texas Tech and Colorado, and a huge 58-55 home win over #16 Texas in their last Game out.

The Cornhuskers overcame a 24-4 Texas run, as the Longhorns outscored Nebraska 19-4 to end the 1st half, and then scored the first 5 pts of the 2nd half to go up by 14. But Nebraska battled back, led by senior G Ade Dagunduro, who scored a Game-high 17 pts and hauled down 9 rebounds.

Dagunduro is leading the team in points, with 11.8 ppg, and in FG %, connecting on 53% of his attempts. He has also been a force on the boards, as his 4 rebounds per Game are good for 2nd on the team, and his 38 offensive rebounds are 14 more than any other teammate. Nebraska has just one other player averaging in double-digits, as another senior, G Steve Harley, is adding 11.5 ppg.

The Cornhuskers are only averaging around 66 pts per Game, but they have played very good defensively in only allowing an average of 58.5 ppg. In Conference play, they are scoring an average of 61.3 ppg, while giving up just under 63 ppg. They are 3-4 on the road this year, and 2-2 on the road in Conference match-ups.

The Missouri Tigers have only lost 4 Games all year, and since the loss to Nebraska a little over a month ago, they have gone on an 8-1 run, winning their last 4 Games in a row. In their most recent Game, they overcame a 30-16 half-time deficit to knock off #16 Kansas in a 62-60 home win, to give the Jayhawks their first Conference loss. The win also kept Missouri’s perfect home record intact, as they are now 15-0 on their home floor on the season.

The Tigers are led on offense by Senior F’s DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons, who are combining for nearly 32 pts and 12.5 rebounds per Game. Carroll, the 4th leading scorer in the Conference with 17.4 ppg, is making over 58% of his FG attempts, while Lyons is making over 50% of his attempts. In the comeback win over Kansas, Carroll again led the way, shooting nearly 62% for a Game-high 22 pts and 7 rebounds.

As a team, the Tigers are scoring 83.3 ppg , shooting just over 48% from the field and nearly 37% from 3-point range, while giving up an average of 66 ppg. In Conference play, their scoring average has been slightly less, at 80.3 ppg while giving up nearly 70 ppg. The 51 pts scored in that loss to Nebraska earlier this year was their lowest point total by far, and you can bet that they will be geared up to avenge that performance. However, Nebraska has played Missouri tough over the last few years. since the 2005 season, Nebraska has gone 6-2 SU vs the Tigers, and 7 of the 8 Games have been decided by 8 pts or less. And the only Game that wasn’t that close was a 13 pt Nebraska win. In 8 out of the last 10 meetings, the margin of victory has been 5 pts or less.

The 17th ranked Missouri Tigers, with their 21-4 overall record and 15-0 home mark, are going to be double-digit favorites in this Game. The line will probably be Missouri -12 pts or so. I would certainly expect a Tiger victory here, but considering how competitive these two teams have been over the last 10 meetings, I think getting double-digit points has a tremendous amount of value. I would suggest a play on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in this Game, at +10 pts or more.
