Oklahoma State at Kansas

2/7/09

Topping last years national championship effort will be tough for the #24 Kansas Jayhawks, but they could be up to the task. They are currently 18-4, and tied with Oklahoma atop the Big 12 standings. The Jayhawks are currently on a 7 Game win streak, with 4 of those wins coming on the road. Defeating Baylor in their last Game was easily the best win of that streak. If they are going to keep the momentum moving, they will have to dispose of a frisky Oklahoma State Cowboys team that recovered from a 16 point deficit to beat Texas Tech 81-80 in their last Game. The Jayhawks will play host to this Game on Saturday February 7, 2009 at 3:30 PM EST.

I’ve heard them called the Oklahoma “Cardiac” Cowboys after that last win against the Red Raiders. I guess that’s because of the proverbial heart attacks that Texas Tech fans had after the Game! After beginning the season 12-3, the Cowboys had dropped 4 of the last 5 Games. The win over Texas Tech improved their record to 14-7. They are lagging far behind in the Big 12 standings, and will need to win a lot of the ball Games left on their Schedule to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

6-6 sophomore guard James Anderson will go a long way to help their efforts. The Junction City, AR native is averaging 16.8 PPG, and is grabbing 5.6 RPG. He is lethal from long range, knocking down 43% of his 3 pointers. If he can get hot with threes, he may be able to put the Jayhawks to sleep. Obi Muonelo is another key player, and he can grab rebounds quicker than you can say his funky name. With 14.7 PPG, and 8.8 RPG he will be a huge factor in the success of the Cowboys.

Kansas has wins over Washington, Temple, Arizona, Kansas State, and Tennessee thus far in the season. Not a bad list if you ask me! They have been tough at home, with their only losses coming to Syracuse in overtime, and a shocking 1 point loss to Massachusetts. They will be looking to continue the run they are currently on. If they are going to do so they will need production from their best players.

Sherron Collins is one of two main “ballers” for the reigning national champions. He is a small guy at 5-11, but is throwing down a tall 18.2 PPG. His APG checks in at 5. I think Anderson will be a tough match up for him, but I’m sure this wont be the first time he has played against a guard who is taller than he is. With 14.7 PPG, and 9.8 RPG, Cole Aldrich is nearly averaging a double-double at center for Kansas. He is also getting at least 2 blocks per Game on most nights.

I believe the line will be close to 8 points. I’ll take my chances on the Oklahoma State Cowboys. That last win did tons to lift their spirits, and I believe that they matchup very well with Kansas. Handing Aldrich will be imperative for an Oklahoma State victory. Good luck, and check back to www.bettorsworld.com for the latest NCAA basketball wagering information!
