Baylor vs. TCU
Pointspread: TCI -21
9/18/10
This Saturday the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (TCU) will take on the Baylor Bears in what will be a battle for bragging rights in the state of Texas. TCU comes in to the Game ranked Fourth in the nation while Baylor will enter the Game unranked. Each team will put their perfect two win and no loss record on the line. Baylor will enter the Game with their defense not having allowed a touchdown in their first two Games while TCU will enter the Game coming off a 62 to 7 win over Tennessee Tech. Something has to give. We see the Baylor defense playing a strong Game but most definitely giving up their no touchdown streak. Baylor will have a more pass oriented offense which will be run by quarter back Robert Griffin III who has passed for over 500 yards already this season. TCU will be lead by the balanced attack of quarter back Andy Dalton, who showed against Oregon St. that he is very capable of scrambling for big GAins, and running back Ed Wesley who has rushed for over 200 yards.
Look for Baylor to keep the ball in the hands of quarter back Robert Griffin III. He has produced over 50% of the Baylor offense. Griffin has 539 yards through the air with Four passing touchdowns. He has rushed for a modest 86 yards and three touchdowns. Griffin will spread the ball out through multiple receivers. The leading wide receiver for the Bears is Kendall Wright who has caught eight passes for 127 yards and one touchdown. No other Bears have caught over 100 yards but 14 players have caught passes this season. The big story however is the strong Bears defense which has not allowed a touchdown in either of their first two Games. They have forced three turnovers on the season. They will have to play a strong Game if they plan to upset the Horned Frogs and that means shutting down Andy Dalton and Ed Wesley.

The Horned Frogs who play in the Mountain West Conference already have one win over a BCS Conference team and will be looking to add to their BCS bowl resume with another win other a BCS Conference team. Look for the Horned Frogs to show a balanced attack. As a team they have rushed for 548 yards on the year. Ed Wesley leads the pack with 28 carries and 219 yards with two touchdowns. Andy Dalton will be the man taking the snaps but he is not afraid to run either. He has rushed for two touchdowns on 20 carries this season while GAining 87 yards. Dalton has also passed for 357 yards this season throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions. His main receiver is Bart Johnson who has caught 10 passes this season. The Horned Frogs defense will also be locked and loaded. They allowed only one touchdown last week and have forced five turnovers on the year. One of those turnovers went back to the house for six. Robert Griffin III will have to be on his Game because one turnover could be a big Game changer.
In this Game the big differeNCe will be the Baylor defense. They haven’t allowed a touchdown this season but they also have not played competition anywhere close to the caliber of TCU. TCU has already been tested early this season playing against Oregon St. Baylor has yet to play what would be considered a quality team.
Bottom line – When it comes down to it, we’re still talking about 4 win team a year ago in Baylor, who hasn’t played anyone yet. A team that GAve up more points on average than they scored (by a TD) abd a team that lost half of it’s starters. In TCU, you have a one loss team from a year ago, that in fact has won 11 Games in 4 of the past 4 years. Last season they outscored opponents 38-13. True, they don’t play as tough of a Schedule as Baylor in the Big 12, but that shouldn’t matter here. Always dangerous laying big numbers, but it’s the only way to go here. TCU -21
